I love these movies. I mentioned Day of the Animals in another thread, and it reminded me that it's been awhile since I watched any of them. The mid to late 70s was clearly their golden age, with producers trying to cash in on the environmentalism movement as well as the success of Jaws. Films like Grizzly, The Prophecy, The Manitou (I guess midget Indian medicine men count as nature), Devil Dog, the aforementioned Day of the Animals, Orca, and Piranha are all great (relatively speaking) examples. There have been some good ones since then, notably Alligator and the wonderfully terrible Shark Attack 3.

Today these are more the territory of the Sci-fi channel. Sasquatch Mountain, Abominable, Python, Bats, on and on it goes. And while those are some terrible movies, I've watched a bunch of them and some are really great for a laugh.

Did you hear that Alexandre Aja is doing Piranha 3-D?

Is he definitely doing it? I thought it was one of those IMDB "facts."

I was really disappointed with Abominable. It was hyped as a return to the kind of movies I mentioned in my first post, and really it wasn't much better than your average Sci Fi Oringinal movie. Especially the seemingly endless scene of the protagonist and his caretaker arguing about the damn monster.

Abominable was kind of like a low rent Rear Window meets Sasquatch. It definitely could have been better, but I did like it better than Sasquatch Mountain. Lance Henrickson somehow found time to do both too.

Shriek Show put out a good 3 pack called "Evil Animals" or something to that effect. Day of the Animals, Grizzly, and Devil Dog for 15 bucks. Not a bad deal.

Nah, not really. Aliens aren't really part of nature. Although I guess neither are manitous.

I think you gotta include Cujo. What was that other one from the 90's? Man's Best Friend?

Oh, and for the 00's, Snakes on a Plane motherfucker!

I've been considering buying this one. Perhaps I will...

Watched Prophecy last night. The sleeping bag scene is still gold.
