Created as a location for discussion of any and all exploitation fare. I can pretty much imagine who our contributors are going to be, but I've started to notice some different folks name dropping a Cannibal Holocaust or I Spit on Your Grave here and there so who knows.
Personally, I love these films. Some of them are great, some of them are awful and some of them are both at the same time, but there's just something about the old ones that were so wrong you find it hard to believe these films ever even got made.
Discuss your love, hatred, disgust, love/hate, whatever relationship with these types of films, from gnarly horror to blaxsploitation to whatever you like.

From wikipedia:
Quote:
Exploitation film is a type of film that eschews the expense of quality productions in favor of making films inexpensively, attracting viewers by exciting their more prurient interests. Exploitation films rely heavily on the lurid advertising of their content rather than the intrinsic quality of the film.
Exploitation films may feature forbidden sex, wanton violence, drug use, nudity, freaks, gore, monsters, destruction, rebellion and mayhem. Such films have existed since the earliest days of moviemaking, but they were popularized in the 1960s with the general relaxing of cinematic taboos in the U.S. and Europe. Since the 1990s, this genre has also received attention from academic circles, where it is sometimes called paracinema.
I'll post that because really it encompasses a lot of different things.

I adore cannibal exploitation. Easily my favorite type of exploitation, and possibly even in all of horror. Cannibal Holocaust, Cannibal Apocalypse, Mountain of the Cannibal God, Cannibal Ferox, Jungle Holocaust, Emmanuelle and the Last Cannibals... I have Man From Deep River, which is cited as being "the one that started it all", sitting on my shelf. I can't wait to watch it.

I've got Holocaust and Apocalypse, I still need to see Cannibal Ferox aka Make Them Die Slowly. I can only take in probably one cannibal movie every six months or so.
The same could be said for revenge movies, which are probably my favorite. I can't watch a bunch of them all at once but I love them, they just make me feel sick and dirty inside, like I need to scrub afterwards. I Spit On Your Grave, Last House on the Left, Thriller: A Cruel Picture, etc. They're so awful, but they're one of the few things that actually kind of fuck me up when I watch them.

It's shit. Wes Craven's a hack.
I think it's a fine example of what we're talking about. I believe it was my first revenge movie as well. Not something I'd put on for warm fuzzies, but it definitely makes you feel dirty.
Come on now, where are bart d. and antiyou, I thought surely we'd at least get them in on this.

Honestly, it just makes me feel embarassed by some of the worst cheese in film history.

Piss your pants.
Did you ever get around to watching I Spit On Your Grave?

No, not yet. I will eventually. I have so many fucking movies to watch.
It's just a genre for people who watch an obscene amount of films, i'd say. I don't really see it as a great genre category. It seems to me it's just a genre so people can say they've seen so and so get raped, or some animal killed etc.

To an extent you're right and I won't deny it. I've watched some of these movies just to see the worst of the worst, the most notorious movies you've ever heard of. But that's just the thing, you'll see stuff in some of these movies that there's no way you'd see in a mainstream studio picture. But that's not all that these movies encompass, how can you deny the fun of some of the blaxploitation movies? Those were pretty wild, you didn't need any kind of a stomach for them and they were a lot of fun.
For anyone who's interested in this stuff but doesn't want to sit down and take in a bunch of movies check out the 42nd Street Forever dvd series. Each disc is about 2 hours of old exploitation trailers and it's incredible. The trailers were often the best parts of some of these movies and in a lot of cases contained everything you'd really want to see. There's some wild, wild stuff on there and it's a load of fun to watch with some friends, assuming you and they are not easily offended.

Wes Craven has a free pass for life because of A Nightmare on Elm Street. If you don't think so, you have no business in this thread or speaking about anything that has to do with horror/exploitation/gore.
I've got Holocaust and Apocalypse, I still need to see Cannibal Ferox aka Make Them Die Slowly. I can only take in probably one cannibal movie every six months or so.

Ferrox is pretty good. One of my fav Cannibal films. I'll never forget the day my folks found the VHS in my room and questioned why it was banned in 32 countries. Good times being a sick fuck kid.
It is amazing when you look at films like CH, CF, I spit on your grave et al. and see what used to be considered obscene, too obscene to allow copies of the films into most countries. Now we go to the theatre to see Hostel....
