Is that very impressive??
In the last 5 years, they've played a minimum of about 15 shows each year.
Is that very impressive??
I'm inclined to say yes for both.
15 shows? there was only 14 last year.
(yeah I know, would have been 15 if Venice hadn't been cancelled )
I don't have anything to compare it with so not sure if it is.. over 18 years, I guess it might be.

1996 US tour was super weak.
I'm a big fan of the 1996 US tour. Modest shows in large venues, the band not yet quite ready for the arena act, their chilled No Code vibe infiltrating their prior 3 albums of rockers instead of going all out to the ceiling, in an eventual way only Matt Cameron would make possible... Ed sounds humbled throughout it, and consequently, very damn good. Standout/sleeper show: Gold- Buffalo, Silver- Augusta, Bronze- Hartford. and Randalls Island fucking rocked it. Last "great" one in my mind... their last stand in America, before flipping the switch to auto-pilot and crusing with only a hiccup up or two since...

they only played 1 show west of the rockies...that was the weak part. i got huge into pearl jam in 1995/1996, was in high school, and lived in las vegas. i couldnt see them that year and had to wait till 1998 because they didnt tour in 1997. bad time to become obsessed with the band.

Its impressive for current headline acts I suppose But when you compair it to the 60's and 70's... its nothing... Of course alot of those bands burnt out pretty quick too so...
Elvis was onto something though playing multi shows in one city (even if you wanna knock the Vegas setting) Hed play 2 1 hour sets a night for about 30 days... 60 concerts in a month... twice a year... its no wonder he racked up some 1,200 concerts in an 8 year span
Yes those shows often were very similar from show to show, but even when he toured, it was useally 15 shows, 15 cities, 15 days

I'm glad someone finally pointed this out. I've been thinking about this for years, and have pointed it out to numerous PJ friends.
PJ are a lot smarter and a lot more devoted than some people give them credit for. Yes, things have changed. Yes, priorities have changed. But I still think in many ways that what goes on between the guys is the same thing that went on in '93 or '96. They play music. They record music. They love music. They like/love each other. And they make a point to play the music in front of people every year. In many ways, that's good enough for me.
(Now, if they'd just play "All Night" ... )

Ha! Great question, Mr. Turner!!!
It's '91 vs. '93. I've been a fan since '91, and I still can't reconcile '91 PJ vs. '93 PJ. You had to be there to know how much they changed and how f'd up the world was around them. But watch a DVD from '93, and you'll get a pretty good idea.

interesting, for me as well, it's '91 to '93
I was telling my wife this morning while we were getting ready about teasing a friend in sixth grade who kept going on and on about some song called "Jeremey," and I patronized him by singing a song about Jeremy a frog (I guess like Jeremiah was a Bullfrog (my wife was singing the chorus of that song, which prompted the conversation, and strangely, when I got in my car this morning, I heard "joy to the world..." out of the stereo speakers-- that's not "strangely," in my book by the way... no coincidences, for me)).
A couple of weeks went by of me doing this, and one weekend at a friends, I saw the video for Jeremy and at the end when it said "Jeremy" (I missed the first part of it, so I didn't know who the band was nor the song's name), I said "ohhhh...." and pretty much have been hooked since, though it was a gradual fanaticism.
would you care to elaborate on the differences you've observed from '91 to '93 which you spoke of??
