I thought Release was widely considered the best live opening tune at a PJ concert, but I got assaulted on this board and others for saying that.

Me, too. I was at that show, but a bunch of people next to me were pretty upset. They wanted Long Road instead.

a big reason why i like going to shows without the fuckin pearl jam nerd herd

release is a fine opener... long road is well... but you won't be any less of a nerd if they play long road

or if they play dirty frank

the whole "play some rare shit" annoys me

if you couldn't tell :)

yeah but what if the band decides to never open a show again with Release? they proved us they were aware of the fanbase pulse regarding songs they play and songs they shelf :?

the band is going to decide to do what it wants... regardless of what Coach says ;)

why do you assume they are aware? i agree that they obviously can tell when a crowd is enjoying a tune and when it's not... although even flow may be an exception

but i don't think they scour the message boards for the latest "pulse"

plus if ed went on the Message Pit he'd probably be banned because he likes to speak his mind ... and that's not allowed there

The bottom line is that you and I are in the minority. Release HAS NEVER BEEN a fan favorite.

One time, I was at a show and a guy got up to take a piss when PJ opened with Releae. I grabbed his arm and asked why he was leaving. Said he wasn't interested in that shit; said it was the worst song on ten; got up and left. Whatever. That guys SUCKS!

you don't like the song that much if you find the need to chat during it!!! ;)

people like you suck ... talking during one of my favorites ;)

i always thought it was a well liked song... but i usually am into the music... not my surroundings

unless someone's being a retard... like my pal at the Vic

Release fucking sucks as an opener. Last time they opened with it I screamed at the band "Fuck you, you hackneyed cunts! You've ruined the fucking show!"
