This album is stunning. It's basically a classical work that sounds like it could be from a movie. I suggest everyone listen to it. He plays piano along with a philharmonic.

The playing is what really sells this music. It is so incredibly tender and nuanced. The melodies are very minimalistic, but extraordinarily beautiful. It's wonderful mood music. And he's clearly fallen in love with the sweep and inherent drama of certain types of orchestral runs. I love it, too.

I just get a really atmospheric movie feel for this. It reminds me of some post rock (well visa versa moreso but you get the point).

I know exactly what you mean. The music isn't developed with the kind of logical arc that you usually associated with classical music. It creates a mood, then works on intensifying and sustaining that mood. Much like movie music does. I believe that film director Giuseppe Piccioni has similar perceptions and has used Einaudi's music to sustain the moods in his films. The only criticism I might have is that some of the orchestral devices are overused, but that's really just a minor criticism. This kind of music suits my current mood so well that it's a little hard for me to be objective about it.
Had the pleasure of seeing this man perform live a few times and exchange some words with him. a very intelligent and gentle man who adores music. He's way into Radiohead for instance.
