I really love these. Point Blank essentially started it (I think?), and I think it's still the best. Soderbergh's The Limey is pretty much an homage to it (Soderbergh is actually on the DVD commentary for Point Blank), and it also kicks all kinds of ass.

On the exploitation side, usually art-ier stuff is hard to come by, but I think Thriller: A Cruel Picture qualifies. It's an interesting movie that never really leaves my thoughts, but I'm not sure if I even like it. I need to revisit it.

Anyway, post thoughts, favorites, etc.

I really enjoyed The Limey. I think they're re-releasing the DVD of it over here (the UK) which is good, as I was going to buy it soon anyway.

If you love The Limey, you need to go watch Point Blank right now.

Could you really call Thriller arty though? I don't know, that's a pretty fucked up movie, but I do like it.

I think so. What interests me about it is the way it experiments with filmic presentation. It really makes the audience feel like the main character feels. It's probably the only movie to ever use hardcore sex footage for a reason other than arousal.

Somehow I doubt that, there are quite a few in that category. *ahemispitonyourgravecough*

But it definitely is some hardcore sex footage, that's for sure.

Couldn't this have been part of the exploitation thread?

Oh, and can't believe no one has said it yet, Irreversible.

Well, it's not hardcore footage in I Spit On Your Grave. And there's debate about whether or not it was supposed to be arousing.

I sincerely hope it wasn't meant to be arousing. And I guess you're right, it's not hardcore in the sense we're talking about.

I almost can't believe I'm debating this.

 That was the general idea. Actually if it makes you feel any better, I've only seen really shitty copies of the uncut version.

Well it looks fantastic. Maybe someone will reissue it in uncut form.

And merc, I really don't know if I would buy a region-free player at this point. So much of the stuff you used to only be able to get on R2 dvds is now out here. Phantasm (although you still can't get Pt 2 anywhere but the Sphere set), the Jodorowski movies, the deluxe editions of Sergio Leone's stuff, billions of giallo, etc, are all out on R1 now.
