My thoughts on this first show of the tour:
First off, excellent venue for this kind of show. Floor seats were sloped so even being at the back of the room, I had a great view.

Merch booth was packed, not much for variety, but everyone wanted the tour poster, which is decent. Has all the tour dates on it, so I"m assuming there's just the one.

First up Mr. Liam Finn. Didn't know much about him besides the relation to Crowded House. I was pleasantly surprised to watch him do a "be the entire band" kinda thing, a la K.T. Tunstall. Lots of loops on the guitar, then he jumps on the drums and plays along, sometimes while singing. He also has a young lady with him doing some percussion and singing backup. All in all, very enjoyable.

So finally Ed's up and puts on a fantastic show. Very simple set up, just him and a bunch of guitars. He went through most of the ITW material and some PJ songs from various albums. He started the night with Walking the Cow, which I'd never heard before. Beautiful song.
Stopping in between songs, as per usual, he had short stories/some thoughts on things that are typical Eddie humor, which the crowd loved, as did I.
You could tell he was slightly nervous, it being the first night. He false-started 2 songs, and replied to our cheers on the second one-"Don't encourage bad behavior". Huge laugh out of alll of us. It lightened things up a bit.
The no pictures rule was followed by about 98% of the audience. A few tried to get a snapshot during the show but got busted by the ushers, which I agree with. It was so nice to see a concert without having 100 cell phones up in the air trying to get their dark/grainy shots.

Best part of the show: the 2nd Encore. I won't say what it is but it's got to do with the Reel2Reel he's got up on stage with him.

Worst part of the show: Members of the audience.
I must say, of all the shows i've ever been too, this had to be one of the most annoying crowds ever.
Here's the situation: In between songs, as we all know, Eddie likes to talk. Whether it's a joke, story, whatever. But in order for us to hear what he's saying, PEOPLE HAVE TO SHUT THE FUCK UP. It's like a good 20 people in the crowd, of a theater that is not very loud when Eddie is talking, felt the need to be the "one guy who shouts an answer to a question Eddie didn't ask in order to get everyone to laugh". Trouble is, they're shouting while Eddie's talkin, which ruined it for the rest of us. That's 1 faction that deserved a beat down.

Faction #2: The requesters. Again, while in a moment of contemplation while telling a story, there were about 5 or 6 jerk offs shouting out requests that in no way shape or form would have fit the night and Ed wasn't takin requests anyway. The most annoying thing to hear in between Eddie's story is "LUKIN!".

Faction #3: Drunk bitches. Specifically 2, one in the middle at the back and one over on the left hand side, both on the floor level. The first one would not shut up whenever Ed was talkin. She even started shouting back "I love you Ed! I just wanna shake your hand! You're such a beautiful songwritter", while essentially, ignoring what he's tryin to say.
Drunk #2 was evidently most appreciative, as she let it be known, but didn't care for Ed's thoughts in between songs. He wanted to talk about something he read in the local paper, a local religious monument is being taken down and he was describing the situation to all of us and Drunk bitch #2 shouts at the top of her lungs "WHO CARES!?". Now that, Ed did hear. The look on his face showed his annoyance.

Now, these are just my ramblings but the 3 I was with all agreed that the factions above did not need to be there. In a small intimate venue in which Ed was trying to create a closeness with the audience, the casuals who get high/drunk for a show did not know how to conduct themselves.
Yes, there were many who were fucked up there. Stumbling drunk and high as kites. Pathetic.

But for those who truly were there to enjoy the show and respect Ed, my hats off to you.

And for everyone who's going to see him, you're in for a treat.
Oh, and if you don't want to know what the 2nd Encore surprise is, don't go on Youtube as, for the last song of the night, everyone whipped out their cameras.

Set list:
Walking the Cow
Around the Bend
I Am Mine
Dead Man
MOTH
Guaranteed
No Ceiling
Far Behind
Rise
Millworker
Goodbye
Brokenhearted
You're True
Driftin
Hide Your Love Away
Picture In A Frame
Trouble
I Won't Back Down
Forever Young

Encore 1
Society
Growing Up
No More
Porch

Encore 2
Spoiler: show
Hard Sun

no alcohol would be great at all shows, but especially at these shows. and i am a drinker, but not at shows.

also, during their acoustic tour, the Foo Fighters did not allow people to come back in from the bathrooms/beer stations, etc. until the song was over. the strict policies were announced before the show started and were actually enforced.

That's a good rule. I was stunned at how many people were getting up to go to the bathroom the entire show. 100X worse than at a movie theatre.

these morons go to either (a) hear Jeremy, or (b) to say they were there. its a very small percentage of people at any show that care about every song and every word from the band. its unfortunate.

I almost forgot one of the neatest things of the show.

Eddie said that he was wearing a special T shirt for the first show ever because it's the same shirt he wore the first time they played together as a band.
Then he coyly opened this shirt to reveal:

remembering the days.

He brought it out of retirement for this show.

Fuckin A.

Vigilant. Everytime a light showed up in the audience, the ushers were right on top of it. And those who security, not ushers, caught taking a photo were made to erase the pictures. Obviously they didn't get 'em all.
There was one complaint made to Eddie towards the end of the show which brought the fact that the ushers were doing checks up the aisles every 5 minutes, which made it annoying for many. So Ed told security relax and made it a point to show that everyone's been civilized the whole night. But by then, there were only a couple of songs left.
And of course, when Hard Sun started, everyone and their grandmother whipped out their cameras and started recording.

No worries. It looks like the tapers were out in full effect for show II anyway. There's little footage from show I.
