I liked this article, but for an unbiased report of the story, click the "NPR Reported" link.

No Surprise Here - Justice Department Hates Gays Posted 4/4/2008 7:37 AM CDT
In a deja-vu moment on Tuesday, the whole issue of politicizing the Justice Department reared its ugly head again as NPR Reported the firing last year of a highly rated staff attorney. Why, you ask? Because she's a lesbian. That's why. Leslie Hagen, a legal specialist in Native American affairs, was a former federal prosecutor who had been recruited to come to Washington from Michigan. After a couple of years of all "outstanding" marks in her evaluations, she had part of her responsibilities taken away (the part dealing with child abuse) and suddenly her contract was not renewed in 2007. The official lie er, uh, line, is that Justice rotates these jobs to give more people the chance to work there. The problem in her case, however, was that, while she was "rotated", her collegues were renewed and her job stayed vacant for months.
What happened here? Well. Remember Monica Goodling, little Miss "I Can't Remember" who was the bludgeon Alberto Gonzalez used to clean out US Attorneys who didn't toe the Republican loyalty line? Well, apparently it wasn't just disloyal US Attorneys she was after. Goodling, then only 33, is a graduate of Pat Robertson's Regent University "Law" School, which is really a training center to teach budding zealots how to sue companies and government agencies to force their narrow ideology into all aspects of American life. The Bush administration, unfortunately, has hired dozens of Robertson's graduates to work at all levels of government. Goodling is the textbook example as to why that was a terrible decision. Apparently, she has now been linked to emails and conversations inside Justice during 2006 where she targeted Hagen because, God forbid, she was homosexual. Even though, by all accounts, Hagen was a loyal Republican, she was canned anyway. As NPR quoted one source, "To some people, that's (being gay) even worse than being a Democrat."
