with the increased cost to tickets this go around, are we going to see less people going to 10-12 shows? does this mean that there will be more seats available in better sections in places that are not NYC or Boston?
Would you go to more shows if the prices were back at $80 for a pair of tickets?

Curious. Thanks.
My personal opinion is that it will not make much of a difference. I think the price increases are to be expected... it is just the normal trend in life a a result of inflation. All costs typically increase year over year, including labour, I would expect venue rental, etc.. etc.. and therefore naturally ticket prices will have to go up every year too.
To be very honest, I don't understand the people who complain about the increase in ticket prices... unless they are young students without jobs or something... But if a person is employed and making money, whether it is a lot or a little, then their pay should have increased also year over year... so it should all be relative as far as I am concerned.... if they make little money, chances are that they could only afford one or two shows in the past at the lower ticket prices also... but if they were making good money in the past, they probably could afford multiple shows, and most likely now, with their year over year pay increases, they should be able to afford the ticket price increase also... The exception to this would be if their living expenses increased, and they are on a tighter budget, but the living expenses would have mostly increased as a result of inflation.. increase in gas prices, increase in cable bills, increase in rent, etc... so it really shouldn't be a surprise that PJ ticket prices have risen either... everything gets more expensive every year...
Like I said i really don't get the people who expect ticket prices to remain the same every year.... but we all have the right to our own opinions, this just happens to be mine.

thats me. i had to borrow money for the one show im going to. i mean, i understand that this is where most of their money is coming from, but with the lack of bootlegs and all it gets a little harder for me to handle.

i expected the cost to rise. and I'm going to one show. but seeing there is no new album and its a short tour, perhaps peopel won't have the cash to meet all these expectations. perhaps they'll only pick a show or two.
i know i am not keeping up with inflation. my dollar was much stronger in 2002 than it is right now.

Now that I've got the traveling fan bug, financial commitments to move across to the other side of the world notwithstanding, there's not too much that'd get in the way of me going on tour.
Besides, the prices are still lower than what I paid for in Australia and Europe.

Yeah, prices mean fuck all really. I know I'm going over for it from Ireland, and I think a couple of others are, too. This might be my last time travelling any distance to see them though. Though I said that last year. And in 2006. And in 2003.

Where are all these complaints about ticket prices coming from? For the last tour I remember paying close to $90 for Santa Barbara and Portland, $100 for Denver, and around $70 for all of the other shows. In Europe and Australia there were many travelling fans as well, despite higher travel costs, and all of their tickets were close to $100 or more, with the exception of Poland.
It has gone up marginally with inflation. Why should their ticket prices stay the same if their tour expenses are more than before?
Of course there are priorities you have to consider, such as family and other responsibilities, but after that, money should never be an issue. If you to want to see a show at a particular place bad enough, you will pay and you will go. If you don't think its worth the price then you won't pay for it, simple as that. We're not talking about the $300 price tag on shows from dylan or the stones, which people still pay for.
With the US dollar being so low, americans should be happy they are touring the US instead of Europe, where they can make much more money on just the exchange rate alone. The band has always been good to all their fans everywhere with touring.
Besides, we all steal their music for free anyways, so they should be able to charge whatever they want. It is their only means of income and the only way they can survive and keep going. It is still some what of a business afterall.

I don't understand how this would work? I would think if they were getting paid in Euro's they would be getting less because when they came back they would exchange it for less money. Also, wouldn't they be paying for everything in US money which would make things much more expensive for them paying in Euro's over there. Just asking?
I don't really mind the price increase because I have to figure that with so few shows they had to raise the ticket prices to make it worth their wild to tour.

it works this way: lots of their expenses are paid for in $ (crew, equipment hire, merchandise fabrication); they don't pay more for those because the $ is weak, they pay the same as usual. the income (meaning tickets and merchandise sales) is in € (or whatever other stronger currency), which they can exchange back into $ for a lot more than a few years ago. net result: tour is more profitable in Europe for US bands.

Sandra why don't you just become a tour manager for a band and get it over with. Your ruthless organized ways will make lots of $ £ or € for anyone. Maybe Shawn Smith needs to play in a bigger venue next time.

maybe you've already started, how did you get Shawn Smith so close to your house??? Crown of Thorns for Laura? how cool was that?
dude, shit bands like u2 and coldplay charge $75 face minimum. seeing the boys for $100 or under is steal in my opinion, and i'll book a flight on top of it. lets just be happy they still tour relentlessly and keep getting better. see you in tampa.
