Personally, I think Vs. would be a good introduction - easy to get into but also has lots of different styles on it and gives a good idea of what Pearl Jam is about.
What would your choice be?

It would have to be TEN...without hearing that record first, it would be really hard to understand and/or appreciate their growth/changes. Plus, it's still their best album start to finish!

The safe bet would be Yield. The songs other than the classic hits from Ten, Vs. and Vitalogy are somewhat of an "acquired" taste. No Code is also a "strange" kind of a PJ record and Binaural and Riot Act do not really catch the "essence" of who and what they are. I base this conclusion on my wife, who grew up listening to Madonna and Micheal Jackson. Despite my efforts to get her to see the correlation, she just cant get into the long heavy jams on their early records, but she loves the "hits" from those records, and she loves all of Yield. Better stated, Yield is the only CD we can listen to in the car together without having to press the forward button through certain songs. She loved the show at Toledo, so I'll keep working on her....lol.

The easist way to "get into" any band is listening to their Greatest Hits. If you don't like the Greatest Hits you probably won't like any of the albums.
If I had to recommend a studio album, I'd say Ten, Yield, or Riot Act.

that's their best work how could we forget about that one
Yeah, but what would a 12 year old know about it?
hmpf, I'll be 13 in a couple of weeks you ding dong!! And you call yourself and Admin!
Okay, back on topic if they haven't listened to anything since Ten, I'd go with Yield and then slowly back to Vs, Vitaglogy No Code, Binaural and Riot Act.

i'd say RVM. but i'd really prefer L@TG, an image is worth a thousand words, so they say. but the best thing IMO is a customized Pearl Jam guided tour, to be prepared depending on the person. i posted a guided tour for moms setlist last year, it started with the softer songs escalating towards the kickass ones. for guys i'd start upside down, with the kickass first, then some of the softer ones, letting out the country-ish ballads that guys often hate. for girls i'd begin with the country-ish ballads, softer ones, then the kickass. but it depends.

Considering we are talking studio albums here, it depends on what kind of music the person likes.
If he likes heavier music I would reccomend VS, if he likes quiter than Yield

I think Vs. works good, but you've got to give us more info on who you're working on.
Age, sex, favorite bands, hobbies, HIV status?
