Pretty simple question. Would you rather witness a historical feat accomplished by the other team (or a player on the other team) or not see said feat and have your team win? Can't say both. And this is in regards to a game you are attending. Watching on tv you have no reason to say anything but that you want your team to win.
So would you would you be happy to see a no-hitter pitched against your team? Or a player break a significant record, or acheive or a significant personal milestone at the expense of a victory for your team? Obviously there are some circumstances that could change the answer, but I think for the most part I'd be happy to witness something live I may not ever see again otherwise.
I thought of this thread because I'm going on Sunday to see Maddux go for 350 against the Marlins. Obviously I'm rooting for the Marlins, and if we win I'll be happy. But if Maddux gets 350 and I'm there, I think that would be pretty cool too.
Thoughts?

A no-hitter or perfect game, no. I would not like having my team on the receiving end of one of those.
A milestone for another player or a 4 HR night, sure. As long as it wasn't a meaningful game for my team, like with the playoffs on the line or anything.

I can't think of a situation in which I'd be ok with my team losing. Especially if we were playing the BoSox or the Yankees. I don't want any player on either of those teams achieving anything.
So I'll go with the win.

I'll take history. You see a lot of games, your team will some and lose some.
If I was at the game where Chamberlin scored 100 and I was a fan from the other team (The Knicks?), at around halftime when he had 41 points, I'd get really excited to see something special and be rooting for him to just keep scoring. If the game isn't meaningful, might as well some history with a loss.

i'd go with history in most instances. however not to an arch-rival. and not if the game was in any way meaningful.
i really can't think of anything that would could be on the line that i would be okay with the dolphins losing. the other 3 sports are a little different since there are so many games, sacrificing one of 82 or 162 for history doesn't seem that bad.
i mean if an opposing pitcher has struck out 19 marlins and its the 9th inning and we're down 7-0, you betcha i'd like to see him hit 20. unless i hate him or he's a yankee/met.

I think this pretty much sums it up. As long as it's not to a division rival or another team/player I hate, I'd want history.

I don't see the difference between a perfect game and a 4-HR game ftw in a meaningless.
