I'm thinking about buying one, but i heard there are these "rights issues" problem thingys? I was wondering, if anybody has this, and if so can they transfer their bootlegs from bittorrent and stuff? Cause if i can't i'm just going to say fuck this...
i really really don't want that shit apple iPod, but if i can't transfer my classic bootlegs like soldier field 95, zurich 92, ny 9-11-98, and so forth theres no way i'm going to deal with that.
I can't say I've heard good things about the Network Walkman. I'm sure you can put your own music on it, but I think it requires Sony's special ATRAC format. They might have added mp3 support, I'm not sure.
What bothers me is Sony's claim of 13,000 songs on a 20GB Network Walkman, but that's at 48kbps and will sound like complete shit. 20GB will hold about 5000 songs at 128kbps, regardless of whether it's an iPod or Sony. The battery life won't be as great as Sony claims if you use the larger bit rate files. I've heard bad things about their software, and if you do decide to purchase songs from Sony's Connect store, the copyright protections are pretty restrictive.
If the iPod isn't your thing, there are better mp3 players than the Sony Network Walkman. Maybe iRiver, I don't know.

have you heard ATRAC format? The 48kbps? Its just as good as mp3 if not better. Its amazing how they do it. the 48kbps is the ATRAC3 format and its amazing.
I might end up getting an ipod cause of sonicstage and the digital rights thing, which might prevent bittorrent, but the ATRAC3 format is so incredibly appealing.
