i think it is ridiculous that the leader of the catholic church is so unwell and yet he remains the leader. i highly doubt that he is able to make the decisions necessary and fulfill his duties...

can popes step down or is this a life term?

it is traditionally a life term, i'm not sure if any pope has every stepped down...and 2000 years of tradition is hard to break...no matter how ridiculous.
