i'm trying to make a simple dvd slideshow set to music. i want the first image, which displays for about 30 seconds, to gradually blur and transition into the next image. but, when i apply the blur video effect to the clip there's no way to control when it starts, how intense it gets over time, etc. - it's like all or nothing.
anybody have any advice on this?

you're using a video effect, not a transition. you have to cut a part of the first image, apply the effect and then put the transition between both parts. hope that helps.
