one of my favorite athletes ever. cnnsi got copies of the cubs' scouting reports in 1984.

I saw an old highlight clip of him the other day. Man watching those pitches dance across the plate brought back memories of how great watching Maddux pitch a game was. Masterful.

My favorite pitcher. He got more out of less "stuff" than just about anybody. He didn't need an upper- 90's fastball to get people out.
Best pitcher of our generation (was close with Clemens until...) and certainly top 5 of all time.
I modeled my pitching motion after him when I was in LL and he first came up. Even though he sucked, I liked his motion and the fielding position it left me in.

Even though he as a long time member of the Braves during their run I should hate him on principle with me being a Phillies guy, but I can't help it, I've always loved the dude.
Plus waaaaaaaaaay back when I was doing a fantasy draft with my older brother and all of his friends (I was jazzed just that they were including me), I had a strange feeling about Maddux, that I should pick him up, I nabbed him for a mere $15 (which if I recall correctly according to the way the draft was structured, that was fairly cheap), and he only wound up winning his very first Cy Young Award that year for the Cubs. Been a fan ever since

And in the Cubs' infinite wisdom, decided not pay him and keep him.
