Cat Power Appears on New Beck Album

Said album might be appearing sooner than you think

Following in the footsteps of Radiohead, Trent Reznor (twice!), the Raconteurs, Gnarls Barkley, and himself, Beck plans to release his new Danger Mouse-produced LP quite quickly-- in the next four to six weeks, to be exact, according to MTV.com

Universal Music Group wouldn't confirm anything, but we discovered that one of MTV's claims is very much true: the new Beck album will indeed feature contributions from Chan "Cat Power" Marshall. Hopefully in a more notable capacity than Beth Orton on Midnite Vultures, eh?

In other Beck news, he's added a few dates to that summer tour of his since our last report. Oh, and did you hear about his new album? It's got Cat Power on it!

Beck:

06-25 Arendal, Norway - Hove Festival
06-27 Berlin, Germany - Columbiahalle
06-28 St. Gallen, Switzerland - St. Gallen Festival
06-30 Amsterdam, Netherlands - Melkweg
07-01 Southampton, England - Guildhall
07-02 Manchester, England - Apollo
07-04 London, England - Hyde Park (O2 Wireless Festival)
07-06 Werchter, Belgium - Rock Werchter Festival
07-07 Paris, France - Olympia
07-09 Madrid, Spain - La Riviera
07-10 Lisbon, Portugal - Super Bock Super Rock Festival
08-22 San Francisco, CA - Golden Gate Park (Outside Lands Festival)
08-24 Bend, OR - Les Schwab Amphitheater *
08-30 Seattle, WA - Bumbershoot Festival
09-20 Los Angeles, CA - Hollywood Bowl ^
09-27 Austin, TX - Zilker Park (Austin City Limits Festival)

* with Cold War Kids
^ with Spoon, MGMT

Very excited for this record and the Hollywood Bowl show. I've got very high hopes for the record but you never know.

Still put Mutations in the top spot

New Beck LP: 10 Tracks, 30 Minutes, Due This Summer

No title, release date, tracklist, or cover art just yet, but that Danger Mouse-produced, Cat Power-assisted Beck LP will indeed be coming at us a whole lot sooner than we thought a week ago. Clocking in at just over a half an hour, the ten track LP is due "this summer" from Interscope in the U.S.

Given how much we don't know about the project at this juncture, let's take an inventory of the rest of what we do know. Sez a press release: "The result [of Beck and Danger Mouse's collaboration] is a tightly assembled group of songs that range in lyrical tone from introspection and social commentary to off-the-cuff wordplay and lighthearted humor."

So it's a Beck album, then.

And the music? "Musically, the album's ten tracks vacillate between economy and experimentation, hybrid and pop classicism, while consistently manifesting Beck and Danger Mouse's shared interest in psych-rock, folk, electronic minimalism, and orchestration."

So it's a Beck album, then.

Beck's forthcoming summer tour? Still all laid out and ready to roll since our last report.

Beck:

06-25 Arendal, Norway - Hove Festival
06-27 Berlin, Germany - Columbiahalle
06-28 St. Gallen, Switzerland - St. Gallen Festival
06-30 Amsterdam, Netherlands - Melkweg
07-01 Southampton, England - Guildhall

07-09 Madrid, Spain - La Riviera
07-10 Lisbon, Portugal - Super Bock Super Rock Festival
08-22 San Francisco, CA - Golden Gate Park (Outside Lands Festival)

New tune "Chem trails" is up on beck.com and his myspace. I'm digging it. Note: this isn't the first single from what I've heard.

Any thoughts?
