Rented this because I was in the mood for something silly, with zombies, and because it had David Carradine in it. Unfortunately, he isn't in it very long. In this flick he plays the man in charge at a Bed and Breakast, that a bunch of B actor morons stop at on their way to a wedding. He plays his usual calm, cool, kung fu type self, sitting around burning incense and meditating in front of some ancient buddist box, that apparently brings good luck. The blonde girl in the movie disturbs him during his chill time, and he looks like he wants to donkey punch her with vicious authority. We soon find that the box doesn't bring good luck at all, but in fact it brings..........the Dead. After some dragging moments, this is where the movie starts to pick up a little and live up to some of the comments on the cover. Its says it's "The American answer to Shaun Of The Dead", well that couldn't be farther from the truth.......or if it is, we failed miserably as a nation. Thanks a lot assholes. But it also says "It's like a bad horror movie .......only worse!" It certainly lives up to this expectation. There are a lot of bad one liners about not sticking your dick in bushes (after one of the kids is caught urinating out front of the motel), and comparing the ancient evil buddist box to a woman's vagina. A redneck with a guitar comes out of nowhere and sings a song that goes something like "Don't you touch that box Johnny" Then a town full of redneck zombies (they say they're not zombies, but they really are) start dancing around in the middle of the street singing "I'm gonna kill you, I'm gonna kill you" They even start rapping at one point, while sitting on top of their trailer. It's something else. Meanwhile back in homageville, the Sheriff picks up a chainsaw, and as he walks out of the room you can see a poster for Evil Dead hanging up. At first I was excited. Then I thought "wait, no this is probably going to suck." But the chainsaw actually got some good usage later on. It falls on the back of this zombies head (the one that cheated on his girlfriend with the bride in the wedding they were in route to), as he's trying to attack his friend, and he runs around the room spraying blood everywhere for about a whole minute until the thing finally cuts all the way through and ends his living dead life. All the while the girl is hiding under this tarp so she doesn't get soaked in red, and a Frank Sinatra song is playing. It's pretty sweet. This chick isn't your typical dumb blonde. She makes some McGuyver ass shotgun out of a pipe, and fires the shells by banging on the end of it with a hammer. I'm pretty sure this wouldn't work too well in real life, but it's pretty badass on screen. She also slices and dices her way through about 10 more zombies on the stairwell while blood is just shooting out every which a way, and she gets covered in it, all Descent style. It's all up in her eyes and mouth, and she kind of looks like she enjoys it. It's super sexy, and almost worth renting just for that. Really, the whole end of the movie is a lot of fun, and it's worth renting. It's just nowhere near the level of Shaun Of The Dead.

It's not Shaun of the Dead but that's a lofty goal for a little B movie like this one.

Personally, I really enjoyed it. It never takes itself seriously, has some nice gore and is a lot of fun.

Yeah, I don't know what stupid critic was comparing it to Shaun (there was a sticker on the box so I couldn't see) I think it's more comparable to Evil Dead.

I just wish they didn't make you wait so long for all the fun stuff to happen. I hate when movies like this try to build suspense or whatever by following around a bunch of lame kinds and listening to their lame jokes. They know what we want. Just bring on the decapitations already.

Kinda similar, just a tongue in cheek b movie with lots of fun gore. Robert Englund is in it as well. If you enjoyed this at all it's worth a look.

I bought several of them and am still trying to get around to them. I have Blood Feast, the Wizard of Gore and a couple of others. Gore Gore Girls maybe?

I've been slacking in my movie watching lately.

I'm still sad that my local store closed, but I have to admit I'm enjoying blockbuster's selection. I go there only Mon. thru Wed. to buy old releases, so it's rent one get one. Then a free rental good for any day once a month. Lot of stuff I've been meaning to check out that they have. Lot of great B horror. I couldn't find Suspiria though, and they guy had no clue what I was talking about :shake:
