Hearing this topic brought up on a local radio show of mine got me thinking about this. What's the worst you've ever seen it? Anybody actually got a location where you get a free cash withdrawal even if it's not your bank?

The most insane example they gave on the show, the one girl's brother I think it was, he was in a strip club up in NY, the surcharge to tap the ATM machine in the place was no less than $20. No typo -- TWENTY DOLLARS  :shake:
An example I remember hearing about a long time ago, though I'm blanking on the actual $ amount, but it totally makes sense that they'd shake you down, and that's on a cruise. I mean think about it.. where else ya gonna go? :P :haha:
Try and snag a sit down with a school of sharks swimming by in the night for a loan?

(okay yes, that was a reeeeeally lame joke, I know. Hey I'm owning it, isn't that something?! :P :haha: )

It is usually like a buck fifty from both the bank you are getting it from plus the same from yours. I have done it like once or twice when in a pinch but refuse to pay money to get my money.

Well and not to already go on a tangent in my own thread, but the debit MC my mom has, her checking account is set up where she gets charged .35 cents for every debit purchase she makes. When she first told me this I looked at her like she had 3 heads. Seriously I can't believe that in 2008 there actually is still some type of account where you can be charged each time you use it as a debit card. Is anyone else still getting nailed by this? Christ debit charging is SO terribly common anymore, I just don't know how that can be.

Yeah, that's basically a joke. I just found out my bank was charging me seven bucks a month for my checking account without telling me and I called to ream them a new asshole especially when they have a free checking advertisement on their webpage.

Well the bank account I used to have with Citizens Bank, it was the type of checking where if you didn't have I think at least $1000 as the balance on this same one day every month, you'd get the surchage, but for whatever reason the day I was setting up the account the lady waived that for me completely, I never had to pay a dime (& lord knows I never had anywhere close to $1000 sitting in that puppy :haha: )

Mine is free if I withdraw from my credit union's ATM. Other than that, it's just whatever the ATM advertizes.

I normally never use an ATM, though, unless I really need cash for something... And of course those are the times when all you can find is a $4 ATM. :x But I usually have plenty of cash in my wallet, because whenever someone pays me back for something, I always get cash.

Another example they gave of a prime raping site on the show would be the casino. I think the host said the charge he got hit with was at least $10. I mean if there's one place they absolutely know with a doubt you're gonna need cash... :haha:

I've seen $3. $20 is a atrocity, though.

My credit union is part of a co-op so I can find free ATM withdrawals around the country, when my actual bank only has branches in Michigan. In fact, there's a place I can withdraw money free of charge just a few minutes from where I live.

Basically, don't withdraw from ATMs.

For fuck sake, is this what it's come to?

yeah, there's atms around here called "cash points" which are linked with a couple of different banks and do not charge.

New Orleans has quite a few $5 ones, and I'm sure they get a lot worse.

For those living near one, most quick checks have no fee ATMs.

Otherwise, I've seen $5 at a pilot on route 65 in Indiana...I mean fuck that, I'll just put the $1.25 coffee on my debt card at the counter.

A few in Manhatten hit $5 as well.

ive run into this problem 3 times last month and I almost punched a crusty old bitch at the bank over it:

I go to a restaurant and pay with my debit card. I put the tip on the card and go about my business

now, 3 days later I have a negative balance. the reaso is places are now supposedly putting the hold on debit cards TWICE. no one can tell me why, except one place claimed its because of "identity theft"

so now I have a negative balance because I have a $50 charge run twice, and now every transaction I made in between now bounces. now my bank charges me $39 each time something cant go thru. even though the money is actually there, but is being "held" as a debit charge

I got my money back in full the first time, but the 2nd time I dealt with some bitch who gave me a lecture on responsibility so I just stopepd her mid sentance by saying "hey asshole. IM 30 years old. I dont need to be lectured by some 90 year old bank teller. If you dont refund my money now I will make the biggest scene in here you ever saw and I wont leave until I get my money."

I think the bitch cried, cause she got up and I got to speak with a manager who helped me out no problem
