I've been having an e-mail convo with a few buddies over this topic, and one of them peaked my interest enough to start a thread here. (DISCLAIMER: since I only have a casual knowledge of hockey, I have no idea how accurate any of this, and it's obviously biased towards whatever team he's supporting--I'm guessing the Red Wings):
Quote:
It depends on what you mean by "worst"...
If by “worst” you mean fans that lack consistent support for their team, and are unable to even sell out playoff games, then you would select a team like the Nashville Predators.
If by “worst” you mean fans that are complete homers and think their team is God’s gift to hockey, then you would go with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
If by “worst” you mean fans that are extremely liable to the bandwagon or fairweather syndrome and are ready to turn on how their team is run on a dime, then it’s easily the Vancouver Canucks.
If by “worst” you mean fans are absolutely ignorant of the history of hockey or even the rules, written and unwritten, then your answer is the Colorado Avalanche.
If by “worst” you mean fans that are simply awful human beings in general and result to the rudest and crudest form of disapproval known on earth, then the Philadelphia Flyers win in a landslide.
Regardless about whether he's right about the teams in question, it does seem true that "worst" (and best) can vary in several ways. For example, I would have no problem filing Raiders fans under #5, but I have to admit that they're not the worst in all five of the categories listed here.
Feel free to argue over which teams you'd put where. Maybe Notre Dame fans for #2, Chargers fans for #1?

Well the teams I root for are going to be beaten into a bloody pulp.
Most of the real Red Wings fans I've posted with here are pretty knowledgable, but the SoCal bandwagon Wings fans alone make them my #2 most hated team. Behind the Raiders of course.

Oh and I find it ironic and Red Wings fan is calling out a team who doesn't sell-out a playoff game considering they've had a few instances recently where they couldn't sell-out a playoff game.

id like to point out that the flyers were 7th in attendance while being by far the worst team in the league in 06-07. that same year they were voted "most intimidating fans" by nhl players. also, that same year, i murdered 7 people in the wachovia center parking lot b/c they had the wrong colors on.
but as for "worst" montreal fans take the cake

well i'm gonna call out my teams' fans on this one.
dolphins "fans". marlins "fans".
both have a hardcore fanbase which are diehards who live and breath dolphins and marlins no matter what. so i'm not talking about them. i'm talking about the other 1,000,000 people who suddenly are huge marlins fans come october. after a season of 10-15,000 fans/ game and then in the playoffs we're putting 60,000 butts in the seats. i really hate that. and by those losers not showing up all year they get me and the other true marlins fans the butt of jokes because our stadium is always so empty. and while dolphins fans aren't quite as bad, it happens to a lesser degree with the fins too.
and as far as being terrible, obnoxious fans, jet fans take the cake with that by a country mile.

just the opposite, i found buffalo fans (bills & sabres) to be extremely respectful when i attended games at each team's home stadium/arena with my team's colors on.

unless you're a arizona cardinals, columbus blue jackets, atlanta thrashers, memphis grizzlies, charlotte bobcats, KC royals, texas rangers, pittsburgh pirates, detroit lions or oakland raiders fan, they'll always suck.

Yeah but my point is you've chose to be a fan of said team, so you should follow them through thick or thin.

I'd rather be a die-hard Cardinals fan than a bandwagon Cowboys or Steelers fan
