I'll take any excuse to post this awesome long summer drive mix I made last year. Give 'er a spin:

01. Wilco, "Remember The Mountain Bed"
02. British Sea Power, "It Ended On An Oily Stage"
03. My Morning Jacket, "The Way That He Sings"
04. The Flaming Lips, "Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots pt 1"
05. Guided By Voices, "I Am A Tree"
06. Pearl Jam, "Thin Air"
07. Neil Young, "Down by The River (Live at the Fillmore)
08. The Velvet Underground, "What Goes On"
09. Broken Social Scene, "Cause = Time"
10. A Sunny Day In Glasgow, "The Best Summer Ever"
11. Beck, "Jack-ass"
12. The Beatles, "The Ballad of John & Yoko"
13. Bob Dylan, "Isis"
14. Yo La Tengo, "Needle of Death"
15. Bruce Springsteen, "Thunder Road"

This thing is awesome. Really. One of my favorite mixes I've made.

QOTSA - Songs for the Deaf

...and Rated R as well.

I'll say FNM's The Real Thing and Soul Coughing's El Oso

I think R.E.M.'s New Adventures In Hi-Fi would fit the bill quite well, as it was mostly written and recorded while the band was on tour and thus kind of reflects the feeling of travel.

For long stretches of driving I prefer a little mellower music. I'd suggest Springsteen's The River. Cowboy Junkies - 200 More Miles (good Canadian band for atrip through Canada).

this is the easiest way to get into an album. leave the cd in the player for two weeks.

But it sucks when you buy more than a few albums at one time. I end up neglecting many albums I've bought because they weren't able to be "broken in" in my car in a decent amount of time.
