he put tom waits at number 1 and mark lanegan at 5, which makes me disinclined to argue with him

One of the worst lists I have ever seen. How many well known bands are excluded from that list? I havent even heard of a few of the bands on that list. You can tell it was made be a hipster.

Discluded? Do you mean "excluded"?

Mark Lanegan looks like Will Ferrell in that pic.

Most of the best music of the 90's was at least somewhat popular. Maybe that is not true today but back then, basically all the best bands were known.

I'd disagree. Most people don't know about Talk Talk and they made the best album of the 90's.

How can you possibly know this if you've never heard the bands he's talking about?

You're clearly talking about the list 'The 25 best known Alternative Rock Bands Of The 1990s'.

Partly because of the other bands listed, partly because the ones that I had not heard until lately are not as good.

I'd disagree. Most people don't know about Talk Talk and they made the best album of the 90's.

I think I have heard them, more of an 80's band right? If it is the band I am thinking of, I dont think it is possible for them to make the best record of the 90's. Might be good to chill out or fall asleep to but no way could I ever call it the best.

Could be that you just have really generic taste.

Say what you want, I do not like music just because it is different. I cannot stand people that think that something is better just because there isnt much out there that sounds like it.

Well, I call it the best because it's the best thing I've heard from the 90's. It's a not a rock or rap album and it is very contemplative, but it also features who I consider the best vocalist of all time and ridiculously interesting music and instrumentation. So while it is very chill, I don't think that precludes it from being the best album of the 90's.

My only complaint about this list is that a lot of the bands can't exactly be considered the best in the decade if they weren't even relevant for more than 1-2 years in the decade. For instance, Dinosaur Jr. and Pavement weren't exactly the best if they weren't relevant past 1993.
