you go to work tomorrow. as it is usually, a completely normal day. then news breaks: scientists have predicted with 99 percent accuracy that an asteroid will wipe out all life on earth when it smacks into the planet in 10 years, and there is nothing we can do about it.

how would we handle this information? could you imagine the thought process at that point?

I'd guess most people would quit working. Personally, I'd take as many family and friends as I could and I'd head for deep woods away from the populace and live the last 10 years of my life in as much peace as possible.

if you could sustain yourself doing that for 10 years couldn't you forever?

Iunno I might get depressed but would argue with myself that that was ironic and I'd probably have this really intense debate that left me frusturated and then I'd continue living my life the way I am untill we get close enough to due date that I figure I can vacation till the end

the asteroid will cause the earth's atmosphere to basically turn more black than the darkest night you've ever seen. we would all die.

Yes, no doubt. Religion will help keep some order...fear of the after life...but I think there would be total anarchy, not to mention world productivity slowing to almost nothing as everyone quits their job...

I think it would be like the wild wild west.

I'd quit work and live off my retirement savings. And then, if they found a way to avert the asteroid I'd be pretty pissed off.
