The US is a really awesome country. It's one of the most naturally beautiful places in the world. If people hate us it's because of a large contingency of conservative crazies that I also dislike. Hating the country itself is just ignorant.

There is a fundamental difference between hating Americans and hating the US.

No, but a lot of countries that were once staunch defenders of the US and US policies aren't such staunch defenders anymore. The fallout from the Iraq War has a lot to do with this. But there are other weird things that have happened lately that don't help.
South Korea is one of those countries.

South Koreans protest U.S. beef as unsafe Government trying to ease concerns amid flurry of Internet rumors By Sue Chang, MarketWatch
Last update: 2:43 p.m. EDT May 10, 2008Comments: 65SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Protestors gathered Friday night in various cities across South Korea to denounce their government's decision to ease restrictions on U.S. beef amid widespread fears the meat could be contaminated with mad cow disease.
In Seoul, some 10,000 people attended a candlelight vigil, according to Korean media reports. Such vigils have become a popular form of protest in recent years. Public fears over the safety of U.S. beef have been fueled by unsubstantiated Internet reports, with the South Korean government aggressively trying to ease such concerns.
The Associated Press broke the story in September alleging that U.S. soldiers had opened fire on hundreds of Korean civilians at the start of the Korean War in 1950. Veterans provided AP with first-hand accounts of soldiers shooting Korean refugees, many of them women, children, and older men, under a bridge at No Gun Ri, a hamlet about 100 miles southeast of Seoul. Not since the massacre at My lai in Vietnam has the U.S. army confronted such a serious charge of war crimes. Korean victims of the massacre have been trying for years to get an official investigation and now finally, prompted by the AP report, the South Korean and U.S. governments are agreeing to fully probe into the incident.

We are losing the good will of a population that almost to an individual would have said that they loved the US not too many years ago. I'm a bit sad about that.

Hating entire countries is kinda of ridiculous, don't you think?
