SUCKKKKKKKSSSSS. Blanketed ignorantly.

I dislike so much British music I have developed some kind of terrible stereotype in my mind every time I hear a british accent in a song. I'm sure I like some of it, but so much of it fucking sucks.

I hope by British you mean english, 'cos in that case you are definitely correct, i hear oasis or the verve or blur and i'm suicidal..they're awful... but i gotta say, there are great great bands from Scotland and Wales who are technically 'British' but don't have that godawful annoying accent.

Idlewild for one...

I just lumped a lot of it together under British lol. Technically it's probably completely wrong, but it makes it easier for me.

But seriously, I think the US and the UK have about the same amount of decent bands, but the US has far more shitty ones.

There are lots of good UK bands. If you think that the biggest acts define the entire scene, you're mistaken.

I don't like British bands & that's completely allowed..crap nasal whiney moany shite...your probably a manic street preachers fan too i bet  British bands are shoved down our throats here at every opportunity and it's nauseating to listen to..it's not even about music anymore, it's about your haircut and your leather jacket and how good at posing you are..come back oasis/verve/blur all is forgiven kinda thing.
It's boring and worst of all it's dated. Oasis particularly.

Whiney and moany bands are more common in the US to any other place in the world at a ratio of about 2,345:1

Fact.

However, I will admit to being totally unmoved by Oasis and their ilk. I really want to like this band, but I just can't get past the uninspired songwriting. I know, kill me, and it's cool that you like them, but the chord changes are mostly stolen and the vocal melodies are WAY more Turtles than Beatles. But then, I like the Turtles a lot, so what the fuck...

If you look at what we've been given musically from the UK, especially in the form of classic rock, there's no question its better music. I love tons of American bands, but there's something about another culture taking what others have done and reinterpreting it in their own spin.

The Beatles
The Rolling Stones
The Who
Led Zeppelin
Pink Floyd

Those are 5 major, life altering bands, and I'm sure someone who's more of a musicologist could cite more.

If you hate what's going on in English music today, that's fair, but to dismiss it entirely seems... well, stupid.

I'm more referring to stuff with the accent similar to the guy in Foals. They set me off lol. It was decent music behind them, but that fucking accent is so awful it ruins it for me. I am also talking more about modern music. Everyone always points back to the same acts to prove their point. There is no point in arguing about the Beatles, for example.

The Darkness
The Streets
The Libertines
Arctic Monkeys

etc.

That kind of shit.

I can understand if people don't like the accent, but I just *love* Blur, especially live. And lots of other bands, still existing or not. There's too many good British bands and artists to dismiss it all at once.

groetjes,
Mirella :)
