I knew that MIA had sampled the Clash, wasn't sure which song though as I had never heard this one. And it's incredible!

Combat Rock being labeled as a sellout record is so amazing to me. I get that it had, what, two catchy as fuck singles, but it's really a pretty bizarre and unlaced recording altogether.
I have a Mojo Magazine Clash Special, where they go into details on each of the album, and they recorder originally a 8 minutes(if I remember correctly) of 'Straight to hell', but went with the shorter version on the album. I'd love to hear that one!!
I think it's along with 'Know your rights' and 'Should I stay or should I go' one of that albums centerpieces.

The original rejected Mick Jones mix of what would ultimately become Combat Rock. It is quite an interesting collection of songs. Mainly for the Topper Headon penned "The Beautiful People Are Ugly Too" and "Kill Time". Not sure why these songs were not included on Combat Rock because they are some great songs. "The Beautiful People Are Ugly Too" has got to be one of the best songs the Clash ever did where Joe/Mick shared vocals. Also, this bootleg includes the newly discovered jazzy type instrumental "Walk Evil Talk". I only assume that this was Topper and Mick messing around in the studio.
File this one under Essential booting for the Clash fan.

I think they have the longer version of the song on the box set.

absolutely love this song... combat is such an enigma. its both a stroke of genius, a complete fucking mess, a pop record, and a very experimental one all at once.
some of those songs ended up on super black market clash and they are pretty decent, especially cool confusion.
too bad toppers songs didnt get on. though he wrote all of "Rock the Casba" minus the lyrics, which where written by joe. most likely his songs didnt make it on because he was booted for being a drug addict. that must have really sucked to hear a song you wrote on tv and not even be able to share the success of it.
