Led Zeppelin reunite at Foo Fighters show

Wembley Stadium witnesses shock supergroup show

Foo Fighters teamed up with members of Led Zeppelin for a surprise performance in London tonight (June 7).

As had been widely rumoured all week, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones joined Dave Grohl and his band on the second night of their weekend residency at Wembley Stadium.

Although singer Robert Plant was busy on solo duties in America, it was the first time members of the rock legends had united onstage since their legendary O2 Arena show in the UK's capital last December.

The one-night-only supergroup came together at the encore of the Foos' show, performing classics 'Rock And Roll' and 'Ramble On'.

During 'Rock And Roll', Grohl returned to the drums in a switchover that saw Foos drummer Taylor Hawkins taking lead vocals.

Grohl had teased the possibility of the collaboration throughout the show. Early on, after playing an extended 'This Is A Call', saying "We're gonna do something we’ve never done at a Foo Fighters show and it's gonna blow your shit out the door! Tonight this is gonna be the show that we're gonna be talking about for the next 20 years!"

The second of the biggest-ever Foo Fighters shows was impressive in itself, with the band playing hits dating back to their aforementioned 1995 debut single on a revolving 'in the round' stage set.

But the whole night was set up for the encore. After leaving the stage following 'Monkey Wrench', a clearly emotional Grohl returned to declare, "playing Wembley Stadium is an honour, and if we didn’t take advantage of this opportunity, the greatest fucking night in our band’s lives… for all 86,000 of you motherfuckers, it isn't gonna be any other show".

The rock legends then joined the Foos for the historic encore. At the end of their stint, Jimmy Page visibly clung on to his guitar after a member of the road crew ran onstage to relieve him of it. The members of the makeshift band then posed arm to arm.

As Page and Jones left the stage before a final encore of 'Best Of You', an ecstatic Grohl shouted "Welcome to the greatest fucking day of my life!" The night ended with an extravagant firework display.

You can watch fan footage of Grohl introducing Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones onstage below.

Foo Fighters played:

'The Pretender'
'Times Like These'
'No Way Back'
'Cheer Up Boys, Your Make Up Is Running'
'Learn To Fly'
'This Is A Call'
'Long Road To Ruin'
'Breakout'
'Stacked Actors'
'Skin And Bones'
'Big Me'
'Marigold'
'My Hero'
'Cold Day In The Sun'
'Let It Die'
'Everlong'
'Monkey Wrench'
'All My Life'
'Rock And Roll'
'Ramble On'
'Best Of You'

there are a bunch of rumors that Zep will reunite at ACL this year since Plant and FF are both on the bill.

Clearly not a reunion. Stupid NME.

Aside from the special guests, that's a pretty vanilla setlist.

kinda sounds like rumors spread just to get more people to go. i kinda doubt sales have dropped off that much this year tho, if at all. who knows. but considering the lineup, things are seemingly in place for it. unless i decide to go last minute, i'll prob sit it out again for the 3rd year in a row. there are some great acts coming through the state around then anyway. :)

I'm actually not a huge fan of the foos. I mean, I don't hate them by any stretch, I've been to a show of theirs and had a good time at it. I really like Dave Grohl, but on the whole the foos are just kinda a decent band with some good radio hits.

But seeing Dave all pumped up to have his idols on stage with him is pretty cool. You gotta think that was pretty fuckin fun to be able to blast out some Zep tunes with Page and John Paul Jones.

Eh... not only not a reunion, but Taylor Hawkins and Dave Grohl on Rock&Roll and Ramble on respectively just don't sound like good ideas.

That's how I feel about them. One of my mates is mad for them. Thinks there is no better band than them and they are as good as it gets :shake:

I can totally understand why Grohl has a hard on over this, though.

Taylor Hawkins is a good singer. He isn't as bad as you'd think. His solo record was all right, and the few b-sides he's sung for FF are cool. He's obviously no Robert Plant, but I'd really like to hear those two covers. Especially since Grohl has been considered his generation's John Bonham on drums. He's got Bonham's logos tattooed all over his arms and that was his idol as a kid. I bet those two songs they did aren't that terrible.

I've got another confession to make
This song is new
I've got some more money to make
That's nothing new

A dollar's hard to resist, you're being used
This song is far from the best, the best, the best, the best of Foo
