Ok, headed to VA Beach for the show on Tuesday and I think we're gonna try and catch the soundcheck. And even though I've been going to PJ concerts since the '98 Philly shows I've never tried to hear the soundcheck, so I'm wondering what time they typically do it? I'm guessing about 1 hour before gates open (VA Beach gates open at 6:30), but that's just a shot in the dark....so if anyone has some experience with this and has any info to help, I'd appreciate it.

I saw heard Nashville 2003 and Bristow (DC area) later that summer. I didn't realize Nashville wasn't in the eastern time zone so I arrived in town around 5:00 PM, found out it was actually 4:00 and headed over to the venue. They were in the middle of soundcheck. You could hear scattered guitar riffs from Present Tense at the gate.
I heard the DC soundcheck (and actually saw a tricked out Batmobile on 66 east "WTF?" indeed.) but that venue has this massive hill separating the entrance and the stage so the sound was extremely muffled. We could make out Blue Red and Grey and I think I Believe In Miracles (if I can remember correctly). Again, that was sometime around 4:00-5:00 PM. Don't know if things have changed much, but I'd guess they typically do them a few hours before the doors open.

New Orleans 95, we got there at least an hour ( can't really remember the exact time, it's been a few years) before the gates opened and they started the soundcheck while we were waiting for the gates to be opening.

it could be any time. We've heard them soundcheck late in the afternoon in Düsseldorf last year, while we already got our tickets from the Ten Club window, and in 1996 in Zürich it was earlier in the afternoon. In 2001 for Bridge School it was the day before (afternoon?), and I thought Tampa this year was also the day before. In Verona the last time it was beautiful! Also in the afternoon while people were getting their fan club tickets. It was like a complete extra concert. Torino was also in the afternoon. And London, too. Dublin was pretty late.
