To those who have heard the whole version, what are your thoughts? I'm pretty sure that this will cause a little divide in the same way that the reworking of In My Tree has, but my inital thoguhts are that this is really, really good.
I've always liked W.M.A but the studio version is obviously pretty hard to replicate, and if attempted live would get monotonous and ...washy, if i'm making sense (i'm not). So i welcome the change of dynamics - starting stripped and layering it up a little, it allows a little more focus to hte lyrics. It also think it sounds quite No Codey (yay)...with the bridge a little tighter, and the outro maybe a little more extended/focussed this could be a set highlight in a similar way to a song like Present Tense.

It was great. A little slower than the original, but Matt even kicked into that beat by the end and it was a great version. The bridge may need some work, but overall, it owned.

Well as long as we acknowledge the fact that this cause a little divide as the owner of the thread says, Bonnaroo version might have been cool or whatever but the version of this song that OWNS is:
ATLANTA 94!!!
Nothing can replace that one including the studio version. In fact this whole WMA talk makes me want to change my signature...

They played W.M.A. on 3/28 or 3/29 without Doug Pinnick during the 1994 tour. I'd have to go back and listen to see if its a complete version, but while people seem to dig the radio broadcast duet, I prefer the solid PJ version.

I just had a listen to the 'taster clip' on Spin and I cannot tell you how happy I am that this song has made it back on to a set list. I'm really looking forward to hearing the full thing but the clip sounded pretty fine to my ears.
Love this tune.

I enjoy the early '95 versions with Jack. 2/18/95 was the last time it was played in its true form. That version has a cool drum outro. I can't wait to hear the new version though, I'm just excited that it's back!

Sorry but you are wrong. I've heard both. I was at Bonnaroo and WMA is totally reworked and it sounds better than Atlanta and the Studio version. He sings it the same or at least similar but the music has changed so much it gives it new life and almost makes it a completely new song. I cannot express how in awe I was when I was hearing this song live and such a different form.

New WMA kicks fuckin' ass.
Is there anything similar to the original, besides ed's delivery? I'm just hoping the familiar drums are in there somewhere.

Matt kicks in the drums about halfway into it. I like the drums with the song but this version starts off really good and builds up later.

From what I remember, I will say it's been In My Tree-ified. More guitar work forming the base of the tune. I agree there may be a divide amongst version preferences, but whatever, man, they're fuckin' playin' it, yeah?
I still can't believe I heard WMA and Who You Are in the same fucking show in 2008.

The new version rocks.
Although I like the original as well as the Atlanta 94 version, I think this new version is really cool and a welcome addition to the 08 setlists.
WMA is a tricky song when played in it's origianl form. I like how the band changed it up to fit the mood of the Bonnaroo set lists.
I think if they played it close to the original, the song would have fallen flat with the Bonnaroo crowd and not fit in with either the mood of the crowd or their set that night.
