I'm in the market for a new tv on dvd series for summer viewing. I buy instead of rent (against all logic :shake: ), so I really only budgeted for one.

I'm in the mood basically for a dark comedy, centered around family, that can get away with edgier material than basic cable.

Inevitably, I am asking myself Weeds or Six Feet Under? I've seen one or two episodes of both on TV, but I of course want to start from the beginning. Are these shows similar to eachother? What would you pick in my situation?

go with six feet under... it's much more rewarding, especially since weeds' third season kind of sucked

Oh, there is a catch. Bestbuy.com lists Weeds Season 1 as $14.99, while Six Feet Under Season 1 is $54.99. So if i go with 6FU, it had better beat out Weeds by a landslide. I may bite the bullet and Rent 6FU. Decisions.

Six feet under is the best drama I've ever seen.

I haven't seen Six Feet Under, but for $15 a piece, if you're determined to buy, those first two seasons of Weeds are awesome.

I'd rent Six Feet Under if it's that expensive myself.

Or just watch them online and spend nothing. Unless you need to have it on DVD. But just for the record 6 Feet Under is 10 times better than Weeds

try other outlets for SFU... they frequently go on sale at amazon.com (a few weeks ago they had the whole series on sale for like $99 for the whole thing  ). I got all mine from half.com a few years ago

I went with Weeds. Not a bad show at all. The youngest kid (shane?) is hilarious. I figure if Six Feet Under is even better, then I can only go up from here. And Weeds isn't setting the bar low at all, I really like the characters so far.

Weeds has become one of the worst shows around. Crazy how that happens.

SFU is a great series, but it definitely takes a nosedive during a few portions of the last 2 seasons...

The Wire, however, is brilliant from the first second to the last
