I'm glad I managed to see Esbjörn Svensson Trio live, their bass player especially was maybe the best I've seen live. Really creative work.

Do you like Ken Navarro?

I'm not a big fan normally, but I really like his new album The Grace of Summer Light. It's great for summer listening. It's so good that he's streaming the whole thing from his website:

Have you heard this little tune from Jay Rowe?

It's called END OF SUMMER.

Modern Brazilian jazz? Bossa Nova?

Have you ever seen the movie, Black Orpheus, by Marcel Camus? The soundtrack is a great album, if you can find it.

And Getz/Gilberto is a terrific album. It features both Joao Gilberto and Antonio Carlos Jobim. These are both really old, though still great.

Here's a pretty recent article on the modern scene. I enjoyed it, even though I have no familiarity with current scene.

Has anyone heard Christian Mcbride's new album, Kind of Brown?
