when i look at the medium, it is a nod to the Hendrix version (at Woodstock for instance) where Jimi destroyed it and rebuilt it as his own. some people interpret it as a partisan deconstruction but i just feel like the guy's political agenda was more focused on expressing his own reactions towards what was going on about anything. so his star-strangled banner made just plain sense because the US was having a self-indulged hard time in as a whole then and everyone was aware of it.
back to mccready's version. he's surely privy to Ed's interpretation of YLB which would make sense sometimes but not that often. does Ed change the lyrics live? did Ed gave any interview about YLB and/or SSB?
is it a simple, merry patriotic gesture?
i'm just wondering how to take it, me not being USer. and thanks for your responses already.

i think its pretty simple, mike is in love w/ jimi hendrix. yellow ledbetter was based around a jimi song, so i think the ssb at the end is a nice tribute to him.

I take it as yes we do love America, but also since it's usually the last song heard in concert, it's like when old school television stations signed off the air with the SSB.

hahaha - then they need to have that image projected onto the stage after it:

i think so. i think it says.."we don't hate this country. FYI. just the folks who run it and we're still proud americans"
that is exactly how i feel about 10club
but according to 10club/the bush administration if you criticize them you hate pearl jam/ America
tim bierman = dick cheney
you really should, like, tell us how you feel about 10c 20 more times to make sure we get it.
I was about to type that

I'm sure there's some patriotism in there, but mostly it reminds me of how TV stations used to end their broadcast day by playing the anthem. McCready doing SSB has that seem feel.

This is exactly what always what I've assumed, and always assumed it was the most logical and common sense explanation.
