Pound for pound, one of, if not the best cop drama on tv, ever. I say that having not seen about 90% of cop dramas on tv ever.
I can't even tell you how much I love this fuckin show. Everything about it, characters, storyline, subject matter, all of it. So, much like my House thread, I'll be posting whatever info I find before this final season approaches.
Speaking of which, September 2nd is when Season 7 starts, which is a tues, which i love because House is no longer on Tuesdays, so I don't have to worry about both being on at the same time.
This final season promises to be one of the best ever. Which is exciting considering that just two seasons back, in what was one of the most shocking moments in tv in a long time,

Ya know I've heard a lot about The Shield over the years, wondered if I should ever get into starting to watch it. Even more encouraging was David Mamet having directed an episode along the way, and then the original creator of the show (blanking on name) later joining together with Mamet to both have a major hand in creating "The Unit", a favorite show of mine.
The major theme as I'd always understood The Shield to have was that Chiklis was a good cop, just with highly questionable methods. He never straight up broke the law himself, but often bent it as far as it could possibly go, all in the name of nabbing the truly guilty. Funny thing is, I'd went into the movie "Training Day" somehow with the belief that Denzel Washington's character was essentially the same type of guy, a great cop whose motives were ultimately tried and true, but he gave his superiors major ulcers in the way he carried out his justice. Boy, did I end up for a surprise once I finally actually saw the movie

well, while Mackey(Chiklis) is a good cop, his methods certainly are questionable. However, there are some times when shit just goes so fuckin sideways, it keeps you on your toes to see if he and his crew will get out of it. i got hooked on this show after 2 episodes, so I imagine if your tastes are similar to mine, you'd really dig this entire series. Oh, and the creator's name is Shawn Ryan, same guy from "The Unit".

SHIT DAMN FUCK! The ONE time it's pays to be an American!
The station that's running the Shield here in Canada is going to be one week behind the US in airing the new season, so unless I can find a torrent for the show, i won't be able to do my House-style recaps until the rest of you have already seen the next episode. and even then, it seems a lil far behind, so I dunno what I'll do.
Anyway, I'll see what I can do in the meantime in getting the shows quicker. So for you Yanks, enjoy tonights season premiere!

HOLY SHIT, WE'RE GONNA HAVE A GANG WAR!
The Shield Ep1 Coefficient of Drag
So the deal was that when we left off season 6, Vic had walked out on his appeals hearing, which he knew he wasn't gonna win, to go save his badge himself and oooooooooooh boy did he ever. Who knew that politicians, judges, cops were druggies, sex addicts and pedophiles?? And whaddaya know, it's those same people that want Vic out of the department. This kind of leverage should do nicely.
On the other end, Shane, once again, has gotten in deep and put alot of people in the line of fire. Previously, he'd taken Vic's wife n kid and hid them away from the Armenian hitman, which Vic didn't know about and figured Shane was pulling a power play. SO in turn, Vic ties up Mara and waits for Shane to get home, to clear the air, as it were. As he and Ronnie and puttin the boots to Shane, he tries to tell Vic that the Armenians fingered him and Ronnie for the money train robbery and green lit Vic's wife and kids. Of course, Vic ain't buyin it since there are only 4 people in this world that know about it and 3 are in that room. Shane is like a Vic Jr. He can spin stories, but you can fuck with the master.
And that's just the opening of the show!
There's so much happening in this season, you can see everything just goin apeshit for the next 12 episodes in Farmington. With Vic and Shane turning the Mexi's and Armenians against each other and Cruz trying to buy up most of Farmington for his international money laundering scheme, the streets are gonna be marked with blood. Oh right, they are already. That was just nasty.
How 'bout Ronnie gettin his hands ultra dirty!! Glad to see he's gettin some more screen time.
He's gonna be leading the Strike Team from now on too! Claudette's little trick to keep Vic in check since it's Ronnie's ass on the line now if he starts to act up again.
BTW, the look on Claudette's face when she and Vic were chattin about the hearing being pushed back was hysterical. Not to mention the shit-eatin grin on Vic.
Speaking of funny: Billings! That bump on the head is some of the best comedic relief I've seen in awhile.
Anywho, I won't go into a long recap cause FX is doin re-runs all week and I don't wanna fuck it up for anyone who missed the premiere. I've only mentioned a small fraction of what happened in this episode.
Next Episode "Snitch" Sept 9th The Mexican-Armenian gang war heats up, enabling Vic to position himself as a valuable commodity to both sides. Meanwhile, black-on-white violence hits Farmington; Corrine and Cassidy confront Vic; Billings returns to work; and an Anglo rock singer is killed when someone in the predominately Hispanic apartment building where she lived drops a concrete block on her head.
