I'm not sure if this has been addressed before, but it's basically impossible to search for "The Who" on here, as both words 'the' and 'who' are ignored as being too common. I'm not talking about the album. I'm talking about the use of songs by The Who in commercials and worst of all, CSI. I know Eddie Vedder has talked about being afraid of this happening. I really got into The Who pretty recently, so I've heard a bunch of their stuff on commercials and whatnot before. It really sucks. Do you have any idea how badass of a song Who Are You? is? Oh my god. But I'll never really be able to hear this song. Whenever I get to it, I see bones and blood and the CSI credits. I Can See For Miles is a damn Honda commercial. I'm not saying that The Who have sold out. I don't know whose fault this is, or even if blaming someone is warranted. I'm just expressing discontent that I'll never be able to hear Who Are You? as a real song.
there was an interview in rolling stone prior to their last tour where pete basically said that the only reason they were touring, and the reason for the commercials, etc was because roger needed money and that pete was content sitting home and writing new music.
that being said, i've seen them the last two tour and am looking forward to seeing what tour dates for the fall come out this week. i'm glad roger needs the money.
Pete said John Entwistle was the reason they had to keep touring and stuff...course he's gone now so I guess it's Rogers fault now even though Pete's the one who wrote the songs and would get the bulk of the money.
Bands making money is probably the least interesting topic of discussion ever. The Who could sell all their songs to tampon commercials and it would have nothing to do with MY ability to be moved by those songs.

I love their music, loved it for years. I get a good chuckle when I see a commercial, and I think the songs fit the CSI opening credits rather well. So it doesn't really bother me. I just enjoy the songs.
Besides, it's their music, and if they want to make money off of it, more power to them.
Some former coworkers of mine saw Roger and Pete and on the last tour and said it was fantastic.

every band that gets out of its basement/garage to play and being paid for it basically sells out, right? but i think that there's a big difference if you gather your initial success because your song is in an ad. the who's songs were massive hits on their own.
