I do believe the amp in his spot this past tour said "Savage" across the top, but that might've been one of Stone's. I could be mistaken if Eddie's amps are the ones on the floor in front of Matt's riser. Then I don't know.

The Savage is Stone's.

Ed's amps are indeed those in front of Matt's drum riser - I don't know what he's using right now.

But that's his rig from something like 10 years ago.

Could he still be using it? He's still wearing the same clothes from 10 years ago. :|

Its possible, but i havent seen the Hiwatt since the 2003 tour or something. I also noticed on the Immagine in Cornice dvd that he had a footpedal near one of his monitors, havent seen a footpedal used when he used the Hiwatt, so perhaps he has something else for sure.

In any case, i liked the dirtier sound he got from the Hiwatt back in 2000

He's definitely not using the Hiwatt.....his amps are the ones leaned back in front of Matt. They look like some sort of Fender Tweed something or other but I don't know what exactly.

Yeah, I was thinking he was using Fenders too just based on their look. I tried zooming in on a picture I took but it gets too pixelated to see the logo properly, although it almost looks like the "Fender" insignia.

The stompbox he's been using is a distortion pedal with the labels "Dirt" and "Soap" on it. Its kinda brown/burnt red/maroon. I don't know the brand name, but it looked cool.

I think it's just an amp switching box he's made up to look like that - ie: one of the Fender tweed-like amps is set to sound clean and one is turned up to sound really crunchy and he uses the switching box to switch between the two.

What spenno said.
Looked like Mike was using one too.

think he's still using the 2 fenders that have been around for a while.

there were some noted changes on this past bonus tour. im going to route like hell for some amps with the old guitar tones for the old songs until i kick

I thought I remembered reading somewhere that since around the time of Riot Act they've had a friend of theirs build custom amps for them.

I have never heard that. Other than the Matchless and Savage combos that Mike and Stone use, everything I have ever seen is pretty standard for a rock band full of gear junkies.

No offense (seriously), but the replies in this post are proof of how little so many "hardcore" PJ fans know about the band and what actually goes on. (Much like all the kids not understanding that Dave A. or the good-in-the-studio-but-can't-cut-it-live Jack Irons couldn't hold Matt Cameron's jock.)

Ed uses three vintage Fender tweed amps. I'm not sure if they're original or reproductions. And it appears that the ones on the left and right are 2x12s, while the middle one is a 4x12. They're set up in front of Matt's drum risers. He also used them on his recent West Coast solo tour. He's been using them since '06 (maybe '05). There are a bazillion photos floating around on the Internet of his current set-up. But the fact that no one here knows (on the best PJ message board around, I might add) and people are throwing up "answers" like his long outdated Hiwatt set-up is sort of ... mind-boggling. Come on, people! Know your PJ!!! :)

Again, no offense intended. I know people are just trying to help. But if you think that Ed uses Stone's Savage amp -- which Stone has been using off and on for years now, by the way -- or that Ed's still using the set-up he stopped using three years ago, then I really don't know what people watch or pay attention to or listen to when they're "watching Pearl Jam." They're probably just bitching in a text message that the band played a not-rare-enough rarity. :)

Also, the above post was correct while the "correcting" post was wrong: Stone has used custom-built amps in the recent past, as has Mike. Both were using Trentino amps off and on since '03 (I believe).

And Ed's foot-switch simply allows him to alternate between a clean tone and a tube-driven overdrive tone. Much like when he used to have his pickup-selector permanently set to the neck pickup, so there was a thicker overdrive sound when he picked strings or played a chord/notes hard.

Lastly, Ed's amps don't have distortion. They're vintage amps, made before distortion was available as a selection on amps. He simply overdrives the tubes by cranking it, ala Neil Young in the '60s/'70s.

All right. Enough geek talk for one day. :)

Which at least two of us stated before your post.

Thanks 100pacer, Wease and spenno and everyone else.
I've slowly been making a PJ convert of my husband (he's the one who wanted to know).
He figured out the Hi-watt from video boots of old shows I've played him but was curious to know what he's using now.

He's been to see them twice with me now but we haven't been close enough to see Ed's amps. :(
