It's cool and all that PJ releases them, and I'm not gonna bitch about the quality like so many, but I was under the impression that I would be getting actual silvers.

If that's the case, why are they $17 bucks a piece. The 2000 shows cost $20 to record, which has probably doubled, but if they are cdr's with a cheap cardboard case, shouldn't they be cheaper, and shouldn't it be made clear what we are getting?

And don't the dl's come with pics of the shows?

They said before the boots went on sale that they would be CD-Rs. That's pretty clear.

Um, where??

I looked all over their website, and never seen cdr's mentioned. Made to order, yes, but nowhere is there a mention of it being on cdr.

Also, why wait to complete orders, when you pay shipping on every one you order.

It was in an e-mail sent out to 10C members detailing the upcoming bootleg series. And, if you're not a 10C member, it's been mentioned in probably every bootleg thread created since the original announcement. I actually saw it here before I saw my e-mail.

And, if you live in the US you aren't paying shipping at all. If you're outside the US, I dunno. Ask Tim.

Isn't shipping is included in the price?

I'm not in the 10c, and it's not my responsibility, as a consumer, to go to a message board and find out about all their latest emails. Esp. when all the news releases and the website itself says "cd".

It's false advertisement, end of story, and pearljam.com is responsible for it.

I'm not saying I hate PJ or even that it's that big a deal, I just think it seems kinda shady, and honestly it looks cheap.

I think they'll make enough money off the sale of these bootlegs, that they coulda used actual cd's.

people are acting like they are charging $10 more for CDRs. its a difference of $2, and that includes shipping, so essentially its the same price as the FLAC downloads.

pressing silvers takes time, which means the band would have to order a number in advance, which means there is leftover inventory, and guess who absorbs that cost...the fans. the bootlegs would cost more so they dont lose money because of the leftovers.

this is an effective way to deliver the product fast and keep costs down. personally, I think physical CDs were unnecessary, but enough people complained in 2006 and the band listened.

I am the first to call out the 10C and the band when they do something that does not meet the standards we have come to expect, but this is a lot of complaining over nothing, IMO.

I don't care about CD-R-gate myself, but are we supposed to have understood that burn-to-order meant "CD-R?" Because that's the only thing my e-mail from 10C says, and I didn't know that.

But weren't the 03 boots cheaper, or around the same price, and available pretty quickly?

It costs, maybe, a few hundred bucks to produce each one of these shows. I think they have a pretty good idea of how many they are gonna sell, of any given show.

Why not make only so many pressed, and when they're gone, they're gone.

If it's not false advertisement, it's pretty damn close, considering that, when they have put out cd boots, they have been actual cd's.

Nope. Foreign customers have to pay a shipping fee on top of the $17.

From what I understand, the quality of the CD-Rs that they are using are actually better in quality than regular, pressed CDs. Maybe they are more expensive.

If you, as a consumer, are unhappy and feel you have been deceived, all you have to do is cancel your order and get a refund. Then you can purchase a cheaper download with no artwork, and burn your own CD-R and have no case in which to place your self-burned CD-R.

And maybe it wasn't in a 10C e-mail. I've already deleted mine, so I can't go back and check. Seems like that's how we found out, tho.

I've never came across a cd-r that is even close to the same quality as a pressed silver. I would guess it's just sheep being sheep.

With every kind I've came in contact with, they scratch easier and the scratches have more of an effect on the content.

I totally agree. So much so that I may never leave the US. Hence, I assumed that shipping was included as part of the price.

I don't really like being on the same side of this argument as OJ. He seems to be kind of a dick.
