I thought those bracelets indicated whether the wearer was a slut or a prude....
Yeah, didn't we go through this with the sex bracelets? Everyone knows that black means you do rim shots, not that you're bulemic.

on Ezboard there is a board called P.A.S.S. (Pro Anna Suicide Society). They do wear different color bracelets for different reasons. It's real.
Whatever, just cuz a few nutbags do it, doesn't make it "real." My friends and I wear different colored bracelets depending on whether we jerk off into a sock, a rag, or a kleenex, but that doesn't mean parents need to be concerned. If fucking lazy-ass parents would talk to their kids and find out if their (a) suicidal (b) sexually active (c) bullemic or (d) jerking off into a sock, than we wouldn't need news stories that talk to like 4 kids and probably get it wrong.

Exactly. That's the problem... adults generally don't have a clue because they don't involve themselves with their teen's life.

When something is done as in someone wears a bracelet, it then becomes real as in they are really wearing a bracelet. So it is real. Is it a big deal, no. Obesity is more of a big deal and people couldn't care less about it.

I tried this with my LiveStrong bracelet, but it didn't work. And before you say it ... NO, I don't have a problem. I can start eating anytime I want. I just don't want to.

Let's see -
Girl is depressed and has low self image.
Girl has eating disorder.
Girl hides problem from parents.
Girl is estranged and lonely.
Parents are oblivious.
Girl is identifying with other girls and finding the support and 'family' she's not getting at home.
Girl purchaces pretty bracelet as a reminder of online 'family' and that she isn't alone.
Parents read article, realize girl has eating disorder.
Parents blame websites, bracelets, etc.
It's not their fault they didn't notice, right?
I know that parents dont contribute 100% to whether a girl develops an eating disorder. But if they need a bracelet to identify that their own child has something that serious going on - that IS on them.

I think this is all bullshit. Like it was said before, just because SOME people do it, doesnt make it something to worry about. It sounds more like there are a group of people who are TRYING to start that as a fashion trend, so they could be like "wow, we started this". And as far as the news story goes, talk about a slow news day.

If the only problem was that parents were oblivious, that would be awesome. How many parents actually CAUSE the eating disorders?
