Which vs. That

This drives me nuts. I hate when people use the word "which" when they should be using teh word "that". It's like people who use "I" instead of "me" because they think it makes them sound like they use good grammar, when in fact they are using poor grammar.

"Which" should be used to start a clause following a comma, and the previous clause should stand on its own without the which clause.

Example: I live in Phoenix, which is the capital of Arizona.

INCORRECT EXAMPLE: Contractor shall give all notices and comply with all laws, regulations and ordinances which govern the proper execution of the Work...

A teacher once taught me to go on "which hunts" in my papers to find incorrect uses of the word "which".

The reason I'm bitching about this right now is because I am forever finding misplaced "whiches" in legal documents that I have to review and/or edit. It's one thing to make this mistake in a blog post, but in a legal document? Come on, you're being paid for your mastery of the English language. Get it right.

This is pretty advanced shit.

Can we just stick to ALOT is NOT A WORD. It does not exist. NOT A WORD.

NEVER WRITE ALOT. Repeat after me: ALOT IS NOT A WORD.

Also, stop fucking up you're/your.

I can live with every other error.

I consider myself to be good with grammar....or maybe I considered myself to be good with grammar. I would have had NO IDEA that sentence was grammatically incorrect. I think I'm very guilty of this which/that crime you speak of.

It sounds so good. How could I have been so wrong?!

On the web, "definitely" is a lost cause.

Thanks to my profession I've become permanently attached to AP Style. The difference between fewer and less... more than and over... lay and lie... the correct abbreviation of states (it's Calif., not CA, people)... drives me up the goddamn Great Wall of China.

Oh don't you start. I was involved in a really long argument about it on the other board. It was hilarious! It must have been nearly twenty pages long. :haha:
