Well, I can't be accused of not being willing to try new things, anyway.
This is a rough mix...there are a number of level changes that will happen, EQ adjustments, and I need to make that transition into the end a lot smoother before deciding if it makes it onto the next Scab.
I know it's pretty difficult to do, but if you were able to lift just the vocal track from Say It Right it would work a lot better. The synthetic drums etc. are a bit out of place and it doesn't flow back into the verses (which are badass) too well. Great idea though man.

How about a hard guitar and cymbal hit moving back into the verse as opposed to that kind of awkward fade out?
I dunno about the hard guitar, but I've been toying with something percussive for the transition. I like the atmosphere of the verses, and I love how the sample slips into it, but I've been thinking about cutting some shakers with the pre overloaded as the first chorus ends. That would make both chorus endings a bit more smooth, and help the second verse have a different color than the first.

I can't steal just the voice, and I like that this thing becomes a little dancey without changing tempo/key/rhythm/etc. But I aim to add some percussion to the second verse and into the ending, because I really want to get the final version to work. It's too bizarre to leave behind.
McP, good production during the verses, the bass is deep and everything is really clear. I agree with what you spoke of in the previous post. Those drums really have to keep going from the first chorus to the end. Do you have any ideas on how to do it? Did you just play over the Nelly song for the chorus? I gotta imagine there's some kind of loop out there that will fit.
I couldn't really sample anything off the Furtado track, because my verses aren't the same progression as her song.
I actually put a shaker and bongos in the song day before yesterday. Funny as it sounds, by simply having them follow the percussion pattern from the Nelly song they actually fit pretty well and add a little throughout. If I get a chance, I'll mix it down, bring it up to this computer, and put it in here.
I think it does. Speaking of which, I have three other songs I've finished since I posted Skies Go Dark but which I'm saving until I'm sure I don't want to add anything more to them. The best songs, you always want to make sure are absolutely done before you share.

I almost posted one today, but I really shouldn't. I'm really excited to share those songs.
