A must get for any fight fan. It looks like i'll be forking over the $55 by myself cause nobody i'm friends with seems interested. Amazing how all these people switched their allegiance to MMA and got disinterested in boxing in a span of 10 years.

You have to expect a shitload of action in this one. I think the hype is real for this fight and expect both guys to take decent beatings with Cotto winning by decision. I don't think Margarito has the power to really hurt Cotto, Plus Cotto is the most relentless fighter since Pryor or Duran. A big Cotto win might mean Mayweather next depending on how well the PPV sales do.

I don't follow MMA but I have to agree with this. My attitude towards boxing has gone the same way at the NBA: all of the great personalities (Tyson, Holyfield, etc.) are gone and no one as interesting has replaced them.

I can see why people would find boxing less exciting than MMA, i just happen to disagree with it. I think baseball is boring as hell but most people enjoy it a lot and i still watch and pay attention because it's a great game and there are some great athletes that play. I'm surprised that people don't feel the same way about boxing although it's more of a niche sport. As for there being "no personalities) in the sport anymore, are there really any distinguished personalities in MMA? I also disagree with that anyway when it comes to boxers of the last couple years. Mayweather is a HUGE personality and probably the 5th or so most recognizable athlete in the world right now. Hatton is a down to earth interesting guy and Pavlik is going to be a big star any day now cause there hasn't been a white middleweight this good from the USA in decades.

The decline of the heavyweight division definitely causes people to lose interest but casual boxing fans are missing out on some great matchups in the lower weight divisions. MMA is definitely more suited to sports fans of this century but i'll take boxing any day of the week over it. It's a more skilled sport in my opinion and just more interesting in general to me. Plus the "gay" moments are few and far between

i find boxing infinitely more interesting than mma

anyway, Cotto will win this fight, but will have to earn it. i expect the decision to be a little closer, but he'll get the nod as the champ. the dude is a machine. it's a wonder no one really wants to fight either of these guys

anybody here getting the fight? Let me guess, you'd rather make out with your boyfriend and watch MMA.

So I guess this is why a lot of people have avoided fighting Antonio Margarito, huh? I've seen Cotto fight a number of times and he had always looked in control for the better part of each fight. I know this one lasted until the 11th round but it was over long before that. I thought Cotto looked pretty good early last night but he seemed like he had nothing left once the fight got into the middle rounds and then it was only a matter of time before Margarito wore him down. Seemed like poor strategy on Cotto's part. It was almost as if he expected the fight to last 6 rounds or less and didn't even prepare for a scenario in which the fight went longer.

That fight was worth every penny and more. Just a total battle. I was rooting for Cotto going into tghe fight and for the 1st couple of rounds but i actually switched to rooting for Margarito by about the 4th. His style is so admirable that i couldn't resist. Cotto got the better shots in the whole fight but he just couldn't rattle Margarito. The guy just kept coming foward throwing punches and eventually broke Cotto's will. I don't even think Cotto fought badly, he just had no answer to stop Antonio. When you hit a guy with everything you have for 10 rounds and he's still coming at you, that's gonna break anybodys will. The guy was a fucking machine and it was like watching a real life Rocky fight.

Does anybody think Cotto wants a rematch? And who is gonna have the balls to go against a guy who gets hit with everything and keeps coming after you? Margarito is not human.

Love boxing. I only wish that when you order it on pay per view on Comcast that it would come in HD live, like it does a week later on HBO. :shake:

Comcast needs live HD pay per view for everything.

fightreport.net delivers yet again...

"Congrats to both Antonio Margarito and Miguel Cotto for putting on one hell of a show last night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV!

The two boxers traded furious blows for nearly forty minutes before WBA Champ Cotto succumbed to Challenger Margarito’s incredible will after being knocked down twice in the eleventh.

Early on in the fight, Cotto was in complete control. He used brilliant lateral movement and counter punching to inflict damage while avoiding it. Meanwhile Margarito continued to pressure Cotto to the body.

By the end of the sixth, Margarito teed off with three consecutive uppercuts on Cotto that appeared to stun the Puerto Rican. Seeing how effective that punch was, Margarito used it liberally in the seventh and enjoyed his best round of the fight.

After another big round in the eighth, Margarito returned to his corner and told them he will soon knock Cotto out. His body work was paying dividends and Cotto began to slow, however he was not quite finished.

Cotto moved well and fought off the ropes nicely in the ninth and tenth but his punch output was dropping. HBO Announcer Max Kellerman said Miguel wished the fight was over now. Damn straight.

Finally in the eleventh, Margarito trapped Cotto against the ropes and landed a huge left uppercut that sagged the Champion. Antonio followed with a few more blows including an illegal shot when Cotto was down. After Miguel beat the count, Margarito stalked him into another corner before a bloodied Miguel took a knee. Before he could rise his corner threw in the towel. There was no complaint from Cotto. Official time was 2:05 of round eleven.

It was the first loss of Cotto’s career who drops to 32-1 with 26 KOs. Margarito improves to 37-5 with 27 KOs."

Sounds like it was a battle indeed.
