Has anyone been watching this show?
It's on AMC, of all channels, and it's about men in the advertising business in New York in 1960. It's a brilliant period piece, largely about the separation of men and women at that time, but it also focuses on many other changes in culture since then. Mostly, it highlights things that these men do that would be considered completely inappropriate today. Everything from the objectivization of women in the workplace, to prodigious drinking and smoking, to the attitudes of people seeing a co-woker casually walk through the office carrying a rifle.
I'm really starting to dig on this show. The characters and the "scene" that the show portrays is just masterfully accomplished. The plot is slow developing, but each episode has its own little substory going on.
Thursday nights at 10:00 (encore showing at 11:00) on AMC. Check it out.

I've been watching it- and it isvery well done.
It's also nearly painful to watch the stereotypical treatment the women receive from these guys, and the complete acceptance of it- which is of course part of the point, to me. It almost turned me off watching it at first, but I continued watching anyway due to the fantastic job they all do in the show. The story line is a little twisted, but I supposed that's a good thing- I mean, better that the plot line take some completely unforseen left turns than to have it move along predicably and not challenge viewers at all.
Last night's episode was interesting that way- the young punk who wanted to discredit Draper- I thought for sure that would go further than it did- but I guess it still might -later on.

I've started watching this as well. Not in any systematic way, I've just seen a few episodes on rerun in the last week. Very well done. I think I will probably end up tivoing season II.

was going to start a thread on this. next to Lost, this is the best show on TV. I whipped through the first season via On Demand and can't wait for Sunday....season premiere! oh and January Jones
Season 2 starts like a year and a half after season 1 in their time line.
Evidently, they are gonna have flashbacks to fill in on some of that lost time, which may or may not help....and/or may or may not confuse...clear as mud?
Either way...the way it is produced...the attention to details in set and historical context are worth the watch.

a year and a half? where did you dream that from? watched the S2 opener and one of the guy refers to the pregnant character (can't remember her name) as having gone away for 2 months...which tally with the fact it's Valentine's day and the last ep of S1 was Xmas.
