your time had simply run out.
the luck and fortune that was yours for so long,
that kept you safe in even the worst of circumstance,
finally waned to the point of futility,
and you were gone.

i wish things could have been different.
i reach back in vain to a past riddled with mistakes,
both deliberate and accidental,
and i know that in the end, there was only the smallest of chances,
the slimmest of margins,
that the path you trod so recklessly upon would lead anywhere but here.

I came back to this and reread it about three times before responding. It's powerful...both stanzas open with a single-line sentence that seems to hint at acceptance, but then the entire rest of each one is a much longer, more frustrated sounding follow-up that betrays the melancholy of the piece.

The final lines are haunted enough to stick in my mind, and probably bring me back into this thread several more times even after this.

Such potentess within this... certainly one of the most beautiful pieces I have read on this forum.
