Hi friends,
I'm making a mix for this totally awesome lady friend who is also very much in love with the pearl jams. It should be a mix of live moments that I consider special, unique or just awesome throughout the years. Mind you, I'm nowhere on this so far. But to give you guys an idea of what I'm doing. Here's what is selectable for the moment:

1. Garden – Academy, New York 31/12/92
2. Alive – Seattle 2, 06/11/2000
3. Who You Are – Cascais 2, 25/11/96
4. Smile – Cascais 2, 25/11/96
5. Animal – Randall’s Island 2, 29/9/96
6. Red Mosquito – Montreal, 20/8/98
7. Present Tense – Montreal, 20/8/98
8. Encore break 1 – MSG, New York 11/9/98
9. Breath – MSG, New York 11/9/98
10. Throw Your Arms Around Me – Mansfield 16/9/98
11. Given to Fly + speech - Mansfield 16/9/98
12. Habit – Mansfield 16/9/98 (pahked the cah at the gahden)
13. Go + quarter rant – Mansfield 16/9/98
14. Jeremy – Zurich, 18/6/92
15. Black – Zurich, 18/6/92
16. Once – Zurich, 18/6/92
17. State of Love and Trust – Utrecht, 4/3/92
18. Bushleaguer – Uniondale, 30/4/03
19. Know Your Rights – Uniondale, 30/4/03
20. Rocking in the free world – Uniondale 30/04/03
21. Wishlist - Buffalo 02/05/03

There's an awful lot of shows I have to go through (94-95 which should bring me a lot of options, 2000 & 2005 which will make it impossible to put this on less than 40 discs)

Things that I will definitely add:
- Ship Song - Red Rocks
- Porch - St Pete
...

I know some smartasses are going to direct me straight to the awesome Green Habit compilation. But I want it much shorter than that. And with all respect, but those are just awesome versions of songs. Sometimes I'm not looking at the best played version of a song, but more at the version with a certain history behind it at that moment. It's going to be accompanied with a written essay on why Pearl Jam are special to me. On her request. That's why I'm picking Breath of MSG 98, despite it being far from the best Breath they have played for example. But that has history and I have loved that show/song a lot for a very long time.

What would your songs be that you say "you have to include that!"? Any help appreciated.

Oye! The American tours of 2006 & 2008 do nothing to me. So if you're going to recommend me things from those shows... I'm not even going to bother. I know they're recent and special to many of you, but still. Sorry. :)

Many gracias!

Or the Virginia Beach 2000 Long Road in which he sings "How I wish for them today."
For that matter, I think the Virginia Beach Its OK needs to be included. The speech going into the tag explains the emotion behind it:

"The last time we had to ask the crowd to do something it was under completely different circumstances than this...It would be nice to start anew. So I'm going to ask you to do something and maybe you'll do it? And its singing. Sing loud cause its outside, Sing loud because your're still alive, Just sing loud alright?

So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna say 'It's OK' and you're gonna sing "Its Okaaaaaaaaaay....."

:)

Daughter / It's OK from VA Beach is 256358% certain to be on. Jones Beach or any 2006 It's Ok: not even close. Mexico 2005 Esta bien: fabulous but no VA Beach-level.

Long Road - San Diego... not even close. Uniondale, Red Rocks, Tibetan Freedom, Tribute to Heroes all higher on my list. And then... although I'm trying to avoid the ones I personally assisted... Long Road Kitchener or Copenhagen are so wow that I'm having a hard time not picking one of them.

my first thought was the tribute to heroes, but i remember people on here talking about the speach ed gave in san diego about where the song came from. honestly i dont give a shit, but i thought it might be one of those "special moments"

id include the entire encore w/ robert plant

Ed has a great rant/speech about MTV and bootleggers before they just nail it.

The last 3 suggestions are really great. Thanks!

Footsteps... I'm not that big a fan of the song. So I don't know... If I'd include one version, I'd be Zurich. But we'll see. Thanks anyway. :)

I reckon the encore break from Copenhagen 07 is more special than NYC 98, though i get that you slipped that in more for Breath than anything else.

it would help if you guys would say why you picked certain songs on from certain shows rather than just naming songs from shows. just my 2 cents. not sure if your looking for stuff like this, but some fan sings or i should say attempts to sing smile. its kinda funny. i forget which show its from. i believe its from the 2000 or 2003 tour from a place down south. i want to say nashville or memphis.

how about let my love open the door from soldier field. pj playing for a massive crowd and bendan o'brien on keys.

i have a few more...

I've Got A Feeling - Boston 4.12.94 - last time played until 9.29.04. possibly the longest song pj has played live? outstanding version and perfect ending to a standout show in a historic venue.

Not For You - Hardford '96 - A time when the band did not do many interviews Ed gives us an insight about the meaning of the song, saying it's not directed towards fans, but "a different enity...someone who thinks they are better than the people making the music; the people listening to the music; or the music itself. And this is just a reminder that they're not."

All Those Yesterdays - Minneapolis '98 - Infamous blown amp...crowd goes insane!

Smile - Nashville '00 - Duet with Andy an audience member.

Wash - Pittsburgh '00 - Played for Amy who has been to over 100 shows.

Yellow Ledbetter '00 - Dance The Night Away tag. Probably my favorite version of the song, but there are way too many to choose from.

Daughter/War - Seattle 12.6.02 - Maybe the most intense Ed has been on stage?

RITFW - San Diego '98 - Flag burning rant is classic. (Probably don't want to add this, one, the sound isn't the greatest and two, i'm sure there are better versions, but you should give this a listen just for the rant alone.
