On the assumption that it took Matt Cameron two albums before Soundgarden really gelled and created the album SuperUnknown which IMHO was the first entirely solid album produced by SG, I get excited thinking it could be the same case with PJ. I think Matt's always been a head taller than other drummers and thus challenges the band he's in. I don't have delusions of commericial success, just an album that fully realizes all the great areas PJ is growing in and growing together with the incorporation of Matt as THEIR drummer now.

Matt's had seven years, three tours, and two albums to "gel" with PJ. I don't think he even thinks about his drumming at his level, it just comes out of him. Matt didn't write many songs on Superunknown, so crediting your opinion of the album to his drumming doesn't really make sense. his playing on every album he's been a part of is incredible, and I expect no less from the next PJ album.

This is some kind of record for a PJ drummer, huh...
When i watch the 98 tour i see a Matt full of energy and funky, but the 03 tour,, i see a different Matt,,, i dont know ,, he changed,,,

Yup. No other pj drummer has made 3 albums (not counting Jack's one contribution to Vitalogy). Matt has long since surpassed the others in length of service, in fact he's been drummer now for almost as long as everyone else combined.

Dave K = 3 Kick Heads

Dave A = Pickled Fish

I think that is how they copyright their music (or something close to that), instead of using their real name. Everyone in the band has a name like that.

I always find what artists choose as their publishing company name to be really interesting. I think I'm going to start a thread about it in Other Bands.

Wouldn't the new album count as Matt's fourth with the band when you remember that he drummed on Temple of the Dog?

I mean technically, Matt was the original drummer for Pearl Jam for the first month or two, but it's hard to count that since he was really just holding a seat for a drummer "to be named later".

Yes, but it was an album he made with the members of Pearl Jam. Whetehr it has the words 'Pearl Jam' on the cover or not doesn't change the fact that it was an album made with Ed, Jeff, Mike & Stone which is the point of this argument, right? If it 'took two albums for SG to gel', well, technically, this line up have made three.

I do! Oh, I do! I agree completely. It does not matter who writes the song -- I know I will enjoy it.
I will admit there are a few songs PJ have written in the past that took a while for me to get into; however, they grew on me in time and I ended up appreciating them just as much as every other PJ song.
Heck, there are times when I will be driving in my car and Croon Spoon will come on in my CD Changer. It is, by far, not the best PJ song (or PJ related song) ever written but I catch myself singing along with Eddie and Susan just like I do with any other PJ song that comes on!!!

I agree with this observation of the difference in his live drumming from 98 to 03-04. He watered down a lot of his drumming, especially on older stuff.
As for what we should see on the 3rd Matt/PJ record, I think it's less a matter of how he drums, and more a matter of whether or not they clean up the production to allow his style and power to shine. Binaural and Riot Act were not produced like any Soundgarden album or even an album like Yield. They are darker and muddier, and drum tracks (especially hi hat and bass drum) tend to get lost in the mix.
