I watched this for the first time the other night, and i loved it. One scene i particularly enjoyed was a very short scene but it really affected me....
Jon (Philip Seymour Hoffman) is telling his sister Wendy (Laura Linney) about his girlfriend, and jokes that he cries every time he tastes her eggs that she makes for breakfast. Cut to the next morning, but it's the morning that his girlfriend has to go back home to Poland because her visa has expired. She makes him eggs as usual, and as he's sat there eating them he begins to cry. For whatever reason, i couldn't stop laughing. It was both funny and heartbreaking to me, because i couldn't decide on the real reason for his crying - was it the fact that his girlfriend was leaving or was it really the bad eggs?
It doesn't sound much to write it down, but to watch Hoffman in that scene is brilliant.
Overall, a great movie with Linney and Hoffman having wonderful chemistry as brother and sister.
