because my old phone shit the bed a while ago.

i'm slowly navigating my way around this thing, have a few free apps installed, but ...

what program do you all recommend to convert my windows-based videos to be compatible with the iphone?

what application to you all find really spiffy that is a must have?

the folks with the original iphone might as well have big fat heavy 1st gen ipods

I don't have a specific answer because I don't know much about iPhones. But here's what I know.

Most Apple products uses mp4's with various extensions for certain products to operate. For example, iTunes videos usually uses an m4v extension, so if you look at its property you'll see it's name will end with .m4v.
Most mobile phones uses the 3gp extension for their videos, but these were pre-iPhones days so I'm not sure if the iPhones uses an .3gp extension or not. If it does, then you'll have to find a converting software- though the resolution and quality will dramatically lessen.
