Last year, Johan Santana won the AL Cy Young Award. With his latest contract, he'll be getting paid like a Cy Young winner.
The Sporting News has learned that the Minnesota Twins have reached an agreement with the left-hander on a four-year deal worth at least $40 million, pending his passing a physical.
If the deal goes through, it would be the largest contract in Twins history.
Santana went 20-6 in 2004 with 265 strikeouts and a 2.61 ERA. The 25-year-old also helped the Twins win the American League Central for a third consecutive year.
Santana was almost unhittable during the second half of the season. After the All-Star break, Santana went 13-0 with a 1.21 ERA and earned AL Pitcher of the Month honors in July, August and September.
funny that a met fan titles this thread with george steinbrenner in mind.
fuck the twins..its about time they paid money to someone..george revenue shares his yankee profits with them each year and what does the owner do with the extra cash?? signs new players..no..he pockets the money..
and then they make a big deal about it when they play each other in the playoffs and make it a point to show each teams payroll..pisses me off..

I'm usually sympathetic to the small market teams.....but I have a hard time feeling bad for Carl Pohlad. this guy could buy Steinbrenner 10x if he wanted.............
I know most of the owners don't want to put their own $$ into the teams (as opposed to revenue from the team), but sometimes you have to spend a little to make a little. get the Twins out of that miserable dome and into a new stadium, keep some of the home grown talent, and they'd get 40,000 fans a game.

So what departures in the recent past have actually hurt the twins?
Pierzynckavicz?Rick Reed?
They have done a masterful job of replacing good, aging (in some cases) players with homegrown talent... with the possible exception of Ortiz, but i dont he think he would have had breakout seasons like he has in Boston.

if you're looking for a guy on the Sox, look no furthur than Trot.
I found it funny that amidst his needless bashing of A-Rod yesterday, he found the time to throw a few kind words towards Giambi..
hmmm...........
