This was such an amazing gig. Lots of political talk. Someone walked up to the stage and tossed a Bush mask at him so he had fun with that for a few songs. Lots of people screaming out of course, but later during the ITW songs he started messing up lyrics and eventually asked people to seriously settle down. He had been hanging out at the 9:30 Club watching a female rock show. He talked about Obama, the Redskins, politics, etc. Lots of joking and laughter.

After Small Town Eddie brought up a letter he got from an armed service member with a family of young kids that wrote music, listened to PJ, and wanted to meet him, so Eddie played a recording over the PA of a song by these little kids with the lyrics "What can we do to make a difference today." The crowd was giggling and some people had scowls on their faces, but most were smiling and into it because Eddie seemed to know the song so well.

Eddie explained that the "lab coats thing" goes back to the Beatles' engineers in Abbey Road in the 1960s (George Webb was helping throughout the show dressed in one). Liam Finn and the woman he opened the show with came out for Hard Sun against a glorious ocean horizon for a backdrop, with drums, the reel-to-reel going, and Eddie rocking out, all of them in lab coats.

One of the best shows I've ever seen. Thanks Eddie. :peace:

i agree with everything riot actor said. incredible show. ive seen pearl jam 18 times (or thereabouts) but this was something very different. obviously, there were annoying people in the crowd (we love you eddie, vedder for president, footsteps!!) but it was funny to hear ed address them, and he really kept a sense of humor about it.

the songs sounded amazing.. all the covers, the new song, the into the wild songs, everything.

at one point, ed made a comment about how a nice group of people were videotaping the show 'for posterity'. he then joked about wardrobe malfunctions and how the last time he wore these pants, the fly fell down once or twice, and he didnt want to be showing off his 'bonus features'. id like to think that this was a hint about a future dvd release... id love to relive this show.

arc was incredible as well... the two ladies in front of me were thoroughly confused by it and the impatient usher decided at that moment that the show was over and opened the side doors.... but wow. im glad i got to experience that.

the whole night... unforgettable. :D

Fun show, different. Gorgeous setting. Lots of banter and talk from Ed between songs. A fair amount of political discussion but yet not as much as I had expected. The Pearl Jam songs were fun, who would have thought his foot stomping would be so effective? The seventh inning stretch of Eldery Woman was a blast and I can't complain about any show that I get Parting Ways. But I came especially wanting to hear the Into the Wild and uke songs that will probably never get played at the big shows and a few new covers in person. Despite needing some work Blackbird was the song left in my head afterwards. I was not disappointed, even in my next to last row seat.
The two noticeable flubs were on Masters of War and Guaranteed; Wishlist was perfect. Society seemed to be played a faster than in the studio.
Amen regarding the dickheads yelling during the show. There were three sitting together not far from me. The ushers came over a couple times but didn't do anything. What's wrong with kicking out a few of those who are repeatedly being complete jerkasses? They were my only complaint of an otherwise awesome, awesome evening.
Here's hoping to some kind of official release from these shows.

Quick question for people who went to the show last night. How much were the posters and did the merch tables take credit card or just cash? Thanks in advance!

that's the one he played at the Beacon show by the sound of it.
It was cute.

Awesome fucking show. And all the talk about having to see Liam beforehand were absolutely right. Totally floored me(being toked up didn't hurt the musical influence, especially the second to last song he played.) I would check him out here in Philly on the 5th if I wasn't going to MMJ. I'm tellin ya's - check Liam Finn out one way or another.

Liam Finn was like a one man Radiohead. He had a guest female vocalist onstage with him who helped out, playing percussion two. Liam would play a guitar progression, loop it, add vocals, then sit down and drum for the rest of the song. He had this old-school theremin that he pulled out and went nuts on. Really cool for just one guy.

Right now there's maybe 30 people standing outside the Warner Theatre hoping Eddie will come out and sign stuff. He arrived earlier around 3 and went straight into the venue. The Warner Theatre has doors on the side that open out directly onto the sidewalk so you could put your ear up and listen close to Eddie soundcheck today. One of the crew came out and said he probably wouldn't come out because he was with his "kids." After walking around to the front of the venue, you could put your ear up to the door and hear him soundchecking the song he played over the PA last night with those kids. Looks like they'll play it live tonight.

I had a feeling this would be in the works. I think tonight's show is going to be something really special.

I guess this is the closest show to them..if I remember the Beacon well, he said they were from VB.

Just curious, what was his comments about the football team from DC?
was it just sports talk? or political towards the name that should be changed?

before anyone says anything about them not changen the name...
do you think a team called the Alabama N-----S would be allowed as a tribute to the slaves who made the state grow? nope... And I should add, I did grow up a fan of the Washington team, and my all time fav players are still Art Monk, Darrel Green and Brian Mitchell... But I have since grown to love my Mohican routes, and now chear for another NFC East team that both Monk and Mitchell played for... go Eagles!

Glad to see people had a good time at this show.

However, going to both Newark and DC I, Newark takes it. What I think did it was the crowd and the Bruce Springsteen cover, of course. Some comments lamer than just your usual "I love you Eddie!" such as "Next stop Alaska!" (after an Into the Wild track) and "That's more songs I can play on the mandolin!" (after Ed explained that he could only play one song on the mandolin). Positives for me were a beautiful venue, Blackbird, Parting Ways, The Recycling Song (with kids), easy parking situation. Negatives include jackassery and numbskullery on a few fans and political talk [expected because of our geographic location] (lots of shushing last night which in its own right can get annoying).

not much of a review, but my two.

not that I'm asking for it, but did anything ever surface from this show?
