Idlewild have a really bad experience of touring America. They seemed to really hate it last time, playing plenty of gigs and very small turnout for a lot of them, so they don't tend to be keen on it much.

It's not a case of not wanting to go. It's a case paying for it. They got no US tour support from the lable for Make Another World. Why? Well, it went belly-up not long after the album came out.
If they got a label that would pay tour support for the States and some interest from promoters over there, they would definitely without a doubt go. It's not the band's fault.

Roddy's diary entries on the official webspace show he has a very negative view of the experience. Obviously they didn't hate the country itself that much though, they recorded W/P out there.

A superb contemporary song collection that has been written and performed by three prominent UK musicians, McCusker is famed for his own solo albums as well as his work with Kate Rusby, Drever for his work with Lau as well as his own excellent solo album, and Roddy found fame with Idlewild, before releasing his own folk album ‘My Secret is My Silence’ on Pure Records. This new album sees Woomble take on most of the lead vocal duties, his voice is perfect for the style of songs on ‘Before the Ruin’ and the backing of two of the finest musicians around in Drever and McCusker make this an album full of quality from the first to the last. As you’d imagine from such a well connected group of musicians, the list of friends they’ve brought in to guest on the disc is of the highest quality including Donald Shaw (Capercaillie), Heidi Talbot, Michael McGoldrick and Andy Cutting; what they bring is variety and subtle touches to an already strong trio of artists. This is an album with obvious cross-over appeal as it manages to straddle both folk and rock genres without ever losing sight of the influences of either; the intention is to release a couple of singles from the disc and there’s every chance this may well reach a much wider audience as it’s an album of real depth.
Track listing 1 Silver and Gold 2 Into the Blue 3 All Along the Way 4 Before the Ruin 5 Hope to See 6 Rest on the Rock 7 Out of Light 8 The Poorest Company 9 Moments Last Forever 10 Stuck in Time

Back sitting on my very stylish 1950's vintage danish couch in my house. It arrived last week in a van after a seven week wait. Aside from having to help the man who delivered it empty his van full of furniture and then negotiate the couch up stairs into the living room (is this not what I paid him for?) to say I'm happy with the result would be an understatement. I've never enjoyed sitting on a couch more. Scandanavian furniature from the 50's and 60's is fast becoming a new obsession of mine. Luckily for me it's all so expensive that I'll only ever be able to indulge once every year or so. My ears are ringing from the show last night Idlewild played at Edinburgh's new venue 'the picturehouse'. It seems like it'll be a good place, although for all intents are purposes we were the guinea pigs last night. The sound system needs a few tweaks, at the moment it's one of those places that deafens the crowd and band alike. Still, i hope it does well. It'll have a hard time matching the ABC in Glasgow which, in my humble opinion, is the best venue in Scotland, aside from maybe the Royal concert hall, but thats a venue much more suited for jazz and folk. We (idlewild) have finally announced our run of gigs at King tuts wah wah hut in Glasgow in December. It's been planned for a while now, and we're going to record each night and release them as downloads next year. The plan is to play pretty much every song we're ever written over five nights. It's a little indulgent i know, but it's a fans only sort of venture, and for us it's going to be a challenge, and good fun. Plus it's just before christmas. you can't go wrong. The idlewild site has all the necessary info.

After a couple of listens, this is a really beautiful album for me. I'm not sure I'm gonna end up liking it as well as I liked Woomble's "My Secret is My Silence."
Highlights for me at this point are probably Into The Blue Hope to See Moments Last Forever
I've certainly grown to appreciate Woomble's more folksy side as much as the Idlewild music.
