not sure if this has been done before. i tried searching and didnt see anything like this. basically just wanted to list my 3 favorite shows from each of the MAJOR touring years and give reasons why i like them. Figured this might be a good way for people to check out some shows they may have overlooked... Also note i havent heard EVERY show so this is not definitive. I wanna hear what others think. Some of these i havent listened to in years.

'92
1) 6/18/92 - Volkshaus: Zurich, Switzerland [85]
attendance: 500
set: Oceans, Even Flow, Why Go, Jeremy, State of Love and Trust, Improv (Love You Hate You), Black, Alive, (I'm Not Crazy)/Once, Footsteps, Deep, Leash, jam (Shower the People/Brass in Pocket/Meaningless), Porch, Improv/Suggestion/Garden, Rockin' in the Free World

Anyone who listens to PJ boots that arent just officially released has this show (and knows how good it is). Many best ever versions of songs, specifically the black, alive, and rockin'. Mamasan trilogy is the heat!

2) 3/02/92 - Paard, Den Haag, Holland [88m]
attendance: 500
set: Oceans, Even Flow, Why Go, Jeremy, Deep, Alive, Black, Saying No/Suggestion, Alone, Once, Porch
enc: Garden, Leash, I've Got A Feeling

My favorite IGAF (many boot versions are missing the last few minutes). Ed is having a blast with his brother on stage. Another great Porch!

3) 2/12/92 - Melkweg: Amsterdam, Holland [70m]
attendance: 500
set: Wash, Once, Even Flow, State of Love and Trust, Alive, Black, Deep, Jeremy, Why Go, Bad Mouth improv/Porch
encore: I've Got a Feeling

The energy at this show is out of hand (even more so than most '92 shows) and is obvious when watching the great video recording. Deep--> Porch is epic.

'93
1)07/14/93 - Brixton Academy: London, England [105m]
attendance: 6,426
support act: Tribe After Tribe
set: Release, Even Flow (song stopped), Blood, Animal, Why Go, Deep, Jeremy, Rearviewmirror, Beast of Burden/(Suck You Dry), Alive, Black, Go, Daughter/(W.M.A.), Porch/(Tearing), Once, Garden, Blues Jam/State of Love and Trust
enc 1: Leash, Fuckin' Up, Sonic Reducer
enc 2: Indifference

This shows in my top 10 all time. My favorite Indfiference. Some of tightest playing ive heard from these guys.

2) 05/13/93 - Slim's Cafe: San Francisco, CA [110m]

An obvious fan favorite with tons of debuts. sick HTI with beast of burden teases. Leash rips.

3) 10/28/93 - Warfield Theater: San Francisco, CA [90m]
attendance: 2,250
support act: Rollins Band
soundcheck: Athena/long vocal jam, Rearviewmirror, Rats instrumental/Rats/jam

enc 1: Sonic Reducer, Not for You, Elderly Woman, Rockin' in the Free World
enc 2: Indifference
enc 3: Throw Your Arms Around Me

Probably my favorite show played by the band. Best. Porch. Ever. TYAAM is beautiful.

so glad to see Hartford 96 up there. A lot of people aren't too crazy about the show mostly because of the riot and stuff, but the boot is proof that this show is fucking fantastic. Best version of In My Tree and Elderly Woman I can think of.

08- from what ive heard/saw HARTFORD is the only one to really write home about. shows were fun but i wasnt really blow away by any. song selection was neat tho.

Alright whatcha got?

Nice to see you pick London & Ottawa from 05. I'm partial to Kitchener since that was my first show. But those 2 were absolutely magnificent shows. I think my best memory of Ottawa is at the start of the second encore. I remember thinking what a great show it had been, but that I had more or less given up hope to see Given to Fly (my nr 1 song) during that show. Then Eddie said something like "Friday night... seems way too early to leave... let's continue" and then they went into Given to Fly and I totally lost it. :)

Encore 3: Indifference

2008.06.27 - HARTFORD
Main Set: Can't Keep, Breakerfall, Last Exit, Gods' Dice, All Night, Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town, Sad, Brain Of J., Big Wave, In Hiding, Not For You(Modern Girl), Daughter(Another Brick In The Wall), Why Go, Jeremy, Gone, Immortality, Porch
Encore 1: Garden, Better Man, Even Flow, Comatose, Leash, Blood(Atomic Dog)
Encore 2: Smile, Do The Evolution, Alive, Fuckin' Up, Yellow Ledbetter(Little Wing)

2008.06.30 - BOSTON II
Main Set: Wash, Last Exit, Save You, Severed Hand, Animal, MFC, Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town, 1/2 Full, Corduroy, Given To Fly, Even Flow, Education, Satan's Bed, Whipping, Glorified G, Do The Evolution
Encore 1: Bee Girl, Who You Are, Better Man(Save it for Later), Garden, Why Go
Encore 2: No More, Once, Footsteps, Alive, Rockin' In The Free World

2008 is hard, none of the above three shows are anywhere near the quality of the 2000-2006 shows. They were just a loose, sloppy mess (and not in the good, Crazy Horse kind of way) this year, there's not a single great show but Boston II is the closest they came.

It's sorta tough to judge though, as the whole first leg of 2006 was just as rough, if not worse - but of course they had the opportunity to improve over a lengthy world tour.

2003 has quite a few hidden gems as well. St Louis / Kansas / Council Bluffs / Champaign.

Yeah Ottawa is the only show i attended that i put on my list. It's my favorite show that ive been to out of about 15 or so. Like you said earlier you really can't go wrong with anything from 05.

Spenno,

I agree with you about '08. this past tour was pretty sloppy and Ed's voice didnt sound great. Ive listened to most of the shows and Hartford was the only one I was compelled to check out again. Oops, looks like I have to shows i attended on my list.

Also nice call on St Louis 00 and 03. those shows are sick and very underrated. The Sonic Reducer from 00 owns and i believe that show featured the debut of U.

Oh yeah, that's definitely in my favourite shows ever too.

Looks like there's something about Pearl Jam in St. Louis that really does it for me!

I agree with St. Pete 94 - wow that is a great show.

I'd like to throw Boise 2000 into the mix.

I also think that Virginia Beach 08 was a great show - I was at both Mansfield shows but I think I still like the way VB sounded - Long Road opener and Ed doing Guaranteed in the encore makes this a good listen.

For 98 - Seattle night 2 is amazing...

I forgot how great Philly1 was in 2000. I think I would replace Milan with that show in my list.

glad to see this show getting love. all songs are played to perfection with the excepton of Breath, but it was a bustout so it gets a pass.

This show has my favorite version of Whipping. This was probably the last year that it was played well and I think that goes for the majority of material on Vitalogy.

yeah, st. louis 00 was the live debut of u. that show is awesome. haven't listened to it in a while, but it was one of the first boots i ever bought. also, the only show in 2000 in which corduroy was not played. they just rock like fuck for the first 6-7 songs if i remember correctly. footsteps is nice in this one too.
