Here's my initial thought, though it would stretch the drafting to 14 rounds. If you insist on a maximum of 12, maybe knock the RB down to 1 and do a 2/1 or 1/2 format on DL/LB.
1 QB 2 RB 3 WR or 2 WR & 1 TE 2 OL 2 DL 2 LB 2 DB (any of CB or S can be picked)
I don't think enough of us have a memory of enough kickers and punters for that to be feasible.
Will we have any free agency period after the draft? That might be a way to fill the extra non-skill positions, though it could also be a nightmare to manage.

Actually draft rounds aren't really an issue, most the time the majority of past competitors of these tournaments like more rounds. So as at first my rules were a min. of 8 and max. of 12, these could change. Really the only thing I like is that when we do Snake Style draft order, I like that we keep the Drafting Round at an Even number, so that it starts and finishes with the #1 order of the draft.
1 QB 2 RB 3 WR or 2 WR & 1 TE 2 OL 2 DL 2 LB 2 DB (any of CB or S can be picked)
Yeah this is what I'm wanting to see from the people that sign up for this tournament, an agreement to what others have suggested, or suggest their own positional breakdown. Then I'll either take the majority vote or compile a new breakdown from all the suggestions.
I don't think enough of us have a memory of enough kickers and punters for that to be feasible.
Yeah, we could really drop punters from the draft, and feasibly drop kickers. Or we can add that during the free agency period you could add a kicker if you want.

Yes, there well always be a free agency/trade/substitution period
As far as O-line/defenses why not just use teams for that? (2007 Patriots O-line, 1994 Cowboys O-line, 1985 Bears defense, 2000 Ravens defense), etc.
I think that's just going to get too unbalanced. Taking all of the 85 Bears D or all of the Steel Curtain? That's a bit unfair.
Yeah alot unfair, I think there are only a slight few COMPLETE Defenses that are from the past, most the time, a good Defense has become great because of one certain player or position (and the rest of the defense feeds off that one great superstar).
This what Tourney-Sheriff's Positional Breakdown idea is:
QB RB TE 2WR 2OL 2DL LB DB K
(I think we can drop the 2nd OL pick for a 2nd RB, 3 WR, or make it a FLEX pick.) (I like the Defensive breakdown, but we could drop the 2nd DL pick, for a FLEX defensive pick, where you could go with a 2nd DL, LB or DB.)

If we're going to have a free agency period, can we have more than 12 roster spots? I'm still not in favor of having a kicker being forced upon us as a draft pick.
Also, I think the offensive flex pick should be the TE position. Not all excellent offensives require an excellent tight end.

Taking more of Nick's suggestions I have revamped my Positional Breakdown idea into this:

Still curious about this. It'd be nice to fill some of those non-skill spots with some extra players that not everyone might know of initially.
I think we can do 12 Regular Draft Rounds.
then we can do 2 All Purpose Free Agency Rounds (which will be first come first serve rounds).
The 2 Free Agency Rounds will be first come first serve, and you can draft any player/position that hasn't been taken.
I'm glad that there is at least you (Nick) that are doing some suggesting and help in what the positional breakdown and how the draft should go down. This will make people more clear in what they can and cannot do once the draft hits, then the draft will flow flawlessly.

I like the ideas that have been thrown out thus far but I don't see why the kicker position has been moved to the defensive flex position. Each team has one, whether it's a strength or a weakness, and it can be used as such during the voting here as well. I tend to look at these "games" as matchup scenarios. Maybe two teams playing in a specific "game" are pretty evenly matched and it comes down to whose kicker would be more likely to hit the game winning FG. Like it or not, that's what some games come down to.
Also, it's not really wasting a pick on a kicker if everyone has to do it. It plays into the strategy of the draft. If you choose to take one of the better ones early on that may play into your favor. Or it may not. I don't know. I'm still working this one out in my head as I type it. I suppose the point is really moot if there are only 12 teams. Each team should be able to find a reliable kicker.
